You can't even get decent Chinese Food in this lousy town anymore.

Often called bananas by "real" Chinese people.  Yellow on outside, white  on inside.

Wasn't there an ethnic sub-group called, Oreos? I don't remember p.c. complaints when that was in vogue.

I don't think it's controversial to suggest that places with lots of immigrants from a particular country are more likely to have restaurants that  better reflect that country's cuisine.

you can get better Chinese food in the Edison area  --- better than what you find in the city unless you go to Flushing.   Shanghai dumpling is amazing on Rte 27 is amazing but very small and always a wait.   Wonder Seafood, also on 27 is very good.  There are others and you can find online.  Edison has a very large Chinese population.  Yes, it takes about 35 minutes to get to the area but well worth it if you want really good Chinese food.

Try Door Dash, they deliver from lots of different towns.  I was never a fan of any of the Chinese places in MSO, but DD adds Springfield, Millburn, Summit and Livingston into the mix, where I thought the Chinese food was better.

I tried it once, 25% of our bill toward delivery!!! Never again.  We ordered $35.00 in food and door dash charged $10.00 to deliver it from only 1/2 mile away.

This sounds great but I really like to order and get it delivered to South Orange.  Any suggestions?

But it's too far to deliver to South Orange.

People actually from China who know the authentic cuisine.

Most Americans do not want "authentic" Chinese cuisine. I tried to order something in a Chinese restaurant in Jersey City patronized mainly by Asians and the waiter told me I wouldn't like it.

But the place is pretty good. Grand Sichuan

I like Hunan Spring on Morris Avenue in Springfield.

I don't think Blue Ocean is closed.  I order from them regularly, and I put in a Seamless order with them 5 minutes ago.  Lucky Fortune is good too.

I think it changed owners and now the chicken is pretty god awful bad.  Once again that muscle striation tough chicken Yucch!!

once again Door Dash is way too expensive 25% of the bill for us.  Never again.

so you're saying that Chinese food is important enough to go on a rant about, but not important enough to travel for, or pay extra for delivery?

Not a huge fan of Chinese food but we like China Chalet in Florham Park. FWIW, it always has an overwhelmingly Asian crowd and can be very crowded on weekend nights.  Doubt it delivers this way though.

that's correct. Not 25% for even a half mile, that is.

You can't pick up from a half a mile away?

Are you trying to shame the OP?

Wait. Who's Veggie Heaven? I've been bemoaning the sad state of hot and sour soup these days and would love a good bowl of it.

Check it out db!

Bay Leaf Indian Cuisine in South Orange has hot and sour soup (I haven't tried it.)

Indian hot and sour?

I can't figure out what that might be. Wonder if it's like the Chinese version.

The last time I suggested Jade Lake in Millburn I was accused of being a chicken nugget eater.  But, after all these years I still think they're as good as it gets in this area.

I like Jade Lake. I also like chicken nuggets.

I went to Jade Lake (I think - entrance is in the back from the parking lot, right?) for Xmas buffet a while back and it sucked to HIGH heaven. Haven't been back.

I am friends with numerous "real" Chinese people and they overwhelmingly recommend China Chalet.  Frequently we go and they order "off the menu" things although their menu items are quite good.  Another good choice is A&J Bistro in E. Hanover for authentic Taiwanese style beef noodle soup and other side dishes.

I will give a thumbs up to China Chalet's hot and sour soup. Pretty good.

And they got Dan-Dan noodles. Unfortunately, you end up with some of the chili oil on your shirt. So wear an old shirt. But its good.

Honestly - a sad experience. And I'd been there before and thought it was fine. Not that night.

It's happening again!  Lololol.  China Chalet stinks and Jade Lake is better!  And, so what if I like chicken nuggets?!?!  Lololol.

Try Cathay 22 on Route 22 Springfield.  See:  http://cathay22.com/location.html

When we have guests from mainland China this is where we take them.  Never disappointed!!!

Fortunately, the service is so fast, the stains never have a chance to set.

Our thanks to dave, whose recommendation on MOL sent us to China Chalet for the first time several years ago.

I miss "Grumpy Beef" at the Chinese place in the old I-Hop in Millburn... #;0)
