Winter Storm Warning — Sunday Feb 7

I'm reminding myself that somewhere under all of that snow, my daffodils have started to emerge.

Feels like it's easing up or this just a break between bands?  Was waiting until it was done to clear.

Weather channel: More snow on Tuesday.

I s'pose I shouldn't put the recycling out this evening  surprised

Alas, the snow is quite wet and heavy. My snow thrower is not able to send it up out of the chute. The snow is either freezing together so fast or there is something wrong with the impeller. This model does not use shear pins and Ms. bikefixed says the front gears are turning but since I cannot see it I do not know if the impeller is spinning or not. Ms. bikefixed won't go near the thing and I don't have a big mirror. Although... Maybe I could use my phone to video the operation.

However, I believe the impeller should not slide along the shaft. That might be the issue. After I shut it down I also found I could turn the impeller by hand so maybe there is some sort of bolt that normally holds it in place so it can turn in concert with the front auger. Hmmm. Time for the doctor I guess.

 Maybe the cable?

It was a pretty easy shovel- much better than the last one.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t pick it up tomorrow.

No, the cable works fine. The auger spins when I push that lever and I don't see a separate cable for the impeller. I think the two pieces work in a synchronized way.

That's a gorgeous snowfall -- I love it when the snow outlines every branch and twig. And the shoveling wasn't too bad. But that's enough snow for now, please!

Sounds like the shear pin is busted.

It spins but does not have the strength / power to push out the snow?
if so, I still say cable. Needs to be looked at.  I have had that issue with my toro.

eta —just read your original post and you said it doesn’t have a shear pin. So it should have a bolt and nut through the impeller and shaft. They can come loose and fall out.

Yeah, I don't have the answer to this and I wish I'd called Buncher's when it happened instead of just going out and shoveling what I needed to clear. He said he was busy fixing machines today and had gotten them all cleared out and delivered. Alas. Our baby will be getting picked up tomorrow morning and taken to the operating room.  The neighbors are rejoicing.

I had to be out in it this morning, and the driving was miserable, to say the least. Even cars going maybe 5MPH were spinning around. It was scary.

I have a feeling we’re in the pattern where cold air drops down in the center north of the country, then interacts with the warm moist air coming up from the south East. It’s like a conveyor belt, and we will have snow almost every two to three days. Might go right into next weekend with snow. Makes me remember 1996 when they had to dump snow in the river. Too cold and too much snow.

Speaking of too cold, my outdoor thermometer is telling me 11 degrees.

Going to start a new thread for this week

More or less this, yes. The reason the cold air is able to dump into the midsection is because the jet stream has pushed pretty far south. We're in pretty much a perfect position for this active jet to rip storm after storm at us.

When overnight temps are in the teens or lower, take steps to keep your water pipes from freezing.  One universally recommended step is to leave a pencil thin amount of water flowing from your highest faucet overnight. Moving water tends not to freeze.

If your main water pipe enters the house from a small utility room, make sure the door to that room is open so warmth from basement gets in.  On crazy cold nights, I've even taken a small lamp, removed the shade, and put it right under the pipe at the wall to generate some heat.

Freezing pipes suck and don't unfreeze so fast no matter what you do.

'Twas just a little bump. All good.
