Why is Trump such an Airhead?

Trump is a frightening nativist.

What do you all think of the Boston men who attacked the homeless Latino man while citing Trump as their inspiration? It's the politics of victimization.

Trump explains it as "passion."

Matt Taibbi's take -

The political right in America has been flirting with dangerous ideas
for a while now, particularly on issues involving immigrants and
minorities. But in the last few years the rhetoric has gotten
particularly crazy.

Thanks for that @eliz. Maybe if I refer to him as Nietzchean, I can insinuate ubermensch without invoking Godwin's Law. I do agree with the message. Trump's not funny any more.

Actually that wouldn't indicate that facism has taken hold.

Trump would have to nationalize the RRs first, but I'm sure if he did, they'd be fabulous.

Contrary to my insistence that we should look to America, not Europe, to understand Trump, here's a piece arguing that Trump fits in with the rise of European right-wing populism.

nut graf:

In a wide range of countries across the continent, newish parties — often, though not always with roots in ideological extremism — are gaining support with platforms that emphasize economic nationalism and anti-immigrant politics, often paired with a more centrist view on the welfare state.
Roughly the Trump ideological mix, in other words, except without the bombastic billionaire

I do find the article interesting, though fwiw I still think there's more to learn by seeing how Trump fits within American history and politics than by trying to tie him to an international pattern.

I mean when is going back to the hotel? Enough already.

He is definitely a corn kernel, having won the Corn Kernel Award at the Iowa State Fair. He is the Colonel of Corn.

Trompe-l'oeil.

See, if you had said Trump-l'oeil, I would have laughed out loud. That Rolling Stones article is brilliant. I saw that earlier in the week for but forgot to add it to this thread. My bad.

Tom, did you read the article? I thought the same as you at first, but then I realized that what the author meant is people have been laughing at Trump's chances of getting nominated or elected. THAT is what's not funny any more. We need to pay closer attention, because he is drawing the crazy nationalists out of the woodwork and giving them authenticity they have lacked before now. The guys in Boston cited Trump as justification for what they did, in their own twisted way.

Hate to ruin the party, but you guys are getting trolled so hard

Jackson, are you saying that Trump is playing at candidacy?

The funny thing to me is that of all the GOP candidates, I might prefer a guy like Trump to the rest of the weasels in the clown car.

I'm generally pretty much 100% liberal/socialist, but I heard something about the trains running on time. I may be willing to compromise some positions!

Well, you all are going to simply LOVE this one:

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/gop-primaries/251969-trump-impersonates-asian-negotiators

But the fact of the matter is that many people love this stuff. They are more than willing to look past the racism and focus on someone who seems to be "telling it like it is." Even when his concepts are completely at odds with reality, they love the way he says them. I have heard friends say that they know that he can't do what he wants to do if he were to win, but they are certain that he knows this as well. What he will do is shake things up and make all those comfortable folks in DC uncomfortable. That is what they want.

PS. I have heard Black and Hispanic friends supporting Trump.

The appeal of Bulldozer Politics.

A scared buffoon who will be voting for Trump.

While appealing on a visceral level, I wonder what they expect the result of this to be.
