White House Denies Report that Trump Demanded Carriage for UK State Visit

good morning!

Wasn't the full Declaration of Independence enlightening? (Never mind the reaction) Thank you, MOL, for the opportuniy to study it real-time.

Thinking about the implications in the context of this thread was also quite enlightening. In so many ways, this current President does not appear to embody the core values of your nation. And he's way too eager to seek favour and honours from the non-democratic head of the very nation from which distanced yourself so pointedly. Further, this head of state is also the head of the church in her nation so whether or not the UK officially believes in the Divine Right of Kings, it's practising this Doctrine - which is anathema to the USA. Which part of any of that can't your Republican Party understand??

It was soothing this morning to read of, and see a photo of, Justin Trudeau's respectful and quiet visit with Her Majesty in Scotland. Totally befitting a Commonwealth head of state consulting with her.

(I need to go to work)

Our Revolution was a principled response to tyranny. Trump is a distant mirror of King George lll. Americans will devise a means to safely, bloodlessly, rid ourselves of his tyranny through democracy. Our Constitution will.shine through once more, Mark my words.

The Revolution was not "bloodless".

No kidding!  I'm saying, getting ourselves free of Trump will be bloodless.

And I am suggesting that I am not so sure.

dailymail.co.uk:  Trump Cancels Visit to Britain; Secy of State Rex Tillerson will go in his place.

It is reported that Trump is disappointed with the lack of bells and whistles planned for his visit to say nothing of planned protests.

edited, because the Guardian updated the article in the several hours since I first read it, after May announced it was off.

Trump's visit to England is on again . . . for Friday the 13th in July.  The people are gearing up for mass protests. They've thought of everything: there's trip wire instant protests planned in case Trump tries to sneak in on an alternate date in an effort to foil massive crowds.

esquire.com:  Mass Protests Planned as Trump's UK Visit Confirmed for July

https://www.esquire.com/uk/lat...

"This does mean that there will be none of the ceremony of a state visit, with the Guardian reporting, "he will not be afforded the honour of a state visit with an official banquet at Buckingham Palace or a carriage procession up the Mall." A devastating blow for Donny who was reportedly keen on a gold-plated carriage ride with the Queen.

Before his trip earlier this year was cancelled, one Facebook event had more than 20,000 planned attendees with organisers aiming for the biggest protest London had ever seen."

Last but not least, the "#Show Your Rump to Trump" team is building up steam again.  https://www.facebook.com/event...    grrr

Has a visiting American President ever before been the target of protests in England?

I am not sure how many other Presidents have visited.

I believe there was always some level of protesting at visits to England by POTUS, but not on the level planned for Trump. Prior POTUS's didn't have to use the service entrance for their personal safety.   grrr  (Pics posted below out of sheer spite.)

13 July is a Friday. They’ll find a reason to call it off again, so fate won’t be tempted.

(Especially because, according to that other thread, there’s no way to be sure no acid throwers aren’t close enough to do harm! cheese )

And on Friday the 13th, no less.   grrr

Trump Faces Mass Protests, Ridicule on U.K. Visit

http://www.euronews.com/2018/06/24/trump-s-visit-britain-faces-mass-protest-marches-giant-baby-n885321?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=referral

LONDON — A 20-foot-tall inflatable orange baby with the face of President Donald Trump could float over Britain's parliament next month, one of many acts of protest planned to coincide with Trump's first visit to the U.K. since taking office.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators are expected to march in London, Scotland and elsewhere during his trip, which takes place amid a growing transatlantic trade war and global dismay at the treatment of immigrant families at the U.S. border.

She’ll probably wear McQueen and send everyone into a tailspin.

The Mayor of London approved the flying of a Trump baby blimp near Parliament on Trump's visit.

I’m still hoping the visit is cancelled.

 I'm hoping he stays there.

There’s a case to be made, according to some UK citizens, for Parliament holding him to account for relatively recent decisions and their impact on world economy and ethics generally. Another point being discussed is that he could still visit and all the Royal family, almost anyone ‘importany’ refuse to see him.

I’ve read, about three weeks ago, a reader’s suggestion that his, or someone critical in his entourage, visitor’s visas could be refused on entry - as happens to many visitors to the US these days.

But unless you make him stateless, I don’t think anyone will keep him...not even Scotland.

Well, the hosts of The Last Leg did invite the president to join them on air for Friday evening, with a special video, however a different agenda has been announced with free time for their broadcast. Adam and co will be disappointed.

You’ll note how carefully everyone is emphasising that even though so much is scheduled outside London it’s not because ‘[we’re] avoiding protestors’, nope, there’s just soooo much to do in sooooo little time [including playing golf etc].

I'm not certain if Trump is even going to be in London, the idea being that he wasn't to be exposed to any protesters.  The Brits have thought of everything: should the Donald Baby Blimp become untethered, it's got its own smart phone for emergency calls.  First responders will let the air out of it lest it fly over any hell-holes.   grrr

newsweek.com:  Donald Baby Balloon available for world tour following Trump's UK Visit

http://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-baby-balloon-london-protest-follow-world-tour-1013145

The giant Donald Trump Baby Blimp, which was approved last week to fly near the UK Parliament building during during President Trump’s visit to London, will now go on a “world tour” with stops in cities across the globe.

“Trump Baby is going on World Tour!” the organizers of the blimp wrote on crowdfunder, where they had raised more than $30,000 USD by Sunday morning. “One little Donald has been run out of Britain in July, we will start to put together an itinerary- so if your community is unlucky enough to be expecting a visit from the orange sex pest, please get in touch.”

“When Trump visits the UK on Friday the 13th of July this year, we want to make sure he knows that all of Britain is looking down on him and laughing at him,” the post added.

He’ll be sleeping in London, at the very least, ‘at the Ambassador’s House’ according to the reports of the schedule. (BBC and Guardian, all weekend)

Just saw this article, haven’t read it yet.

What with David Davis resigning and May’s govt in a tither, the heatwave, the lack of cool drinks (there’s a beer shortage!) plus various EU goings-on, this really mightn’t be the best time to pop over...

Overall I think Trump was a big hit in Great Britain. No?   grrr

If they wrote "How Dare Ya" it would have fit, but wouldn't be British.
