DB, why don't you make a list and post. Someone local might make you an offer for the lot. Even a partial list of your favorites.
@The_Soulful_Mr_T Know anybody?
Hi, Morganna,
I've been out of the vinyl realm for a very long time. Truth be told, I gave up CDs a while back, too. It was a heartbreaking scene when the guy that bought my 600 or so CDs drove away. I fell to my knees and cried.
Now I'm a happy streamer, addicted to Spotify and taking advantage of all it has to offer for a reasonable $10/month. As some of you may know, I spent 30+ years making curated CD playlists and sharing them at the holidays. I now do that on Spotify and they are very shareable. So, if you'd like to hear some cleverly assembled Spotify playlists, let me know. It's as easy as sharing a link.
(I have a great 5.5-hour holiday playlist that will keep you happy and amused all through the holidays.)
I am never ever parting with my original vinyl Pink Floyd LP’s…in fact I’m keeping all. My daughter has taken over control of my collection, I just caught her playing Dylan’s “highway 61 revisited “…and it warmed my soul.

Coincidentally, for me at least, the wall behind the computer table contains a Fela poster and an R.E.M. album.
In case this sentence left anyone else hanging:
In 1981 he released Laurie Anderson’s first single, O Superman, which sold nearly a million copies worldwide and made it to number on the UK singles chart.
Made it to number 2.

Typical Grauniad.

The most desirable titles that I took to Scotti’s last week were Sonic Youth (Goo), the Replacements (Pleased to Meet Me), the Cure (Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me), Pere Ubu (The Tenement Year) and R.E.M. (Green), all in excellent condition. Their median total price on Discogs is about $400. The rest, combined, about $350.
I don't have the Pere Ubu but I have the rest of these on vinyl. Were yours in mint condition?

I don’t know the technical differences between mint, near mint and VG+ — but I can’t imagine how they could have been in better condition without being shrink-wrapped. (Just never got into Green as much as other R.E.M., and while the others all had individual songs I liked, I probably played each record no more than half a dozen times; one of the reasons they were easy to cull was knowing that other listeners out there would appreciate them more than I did.)

Yup. My copy of Green was played maybe twice. Loved REM up to Green. I have probably listened to Murmur thousands of times. I don’t own any REM albums that were released after Green. I find most of their later stuff to be unlistenable.

I still listen to New Adventures as much as I do the first five, and I’ll take Accelerate as happily as the Smithereens’ late encore, 2011.
I just don't see much continuity between the pre Green stuff and the post Green stuff. It feels like Michael Stipe was in two different bands, one that I loved and one that doesn't appeal to me.
It's a weird thing for a band to have such a radical change to their sound. I wish them all well, but I wasn't able to continue.

I have typed responses to this 4 times and lost them all while trying to post. No time now. But I hear ya about vinyl. "Blood on the Tracks" and "Bat Outta Hell" (the cover actually is worded, "Bat Out of Hell" -- what up with that??) are required to be listened to on vinyl. And I SAW the "Stop Making Sense" tour live in Queens when I was SO young -- so Talking Heads are in the same category. Even if I must keep the turntable JUST for those.

I was listening to an interview with the comedian Tim Meadows and he was talking about how watching Stop Making Sense (the movie) convinced him that he should try to pursue a life in the arts instead of taking up a trade.
Life changing stuff!

Green was the first album after they left IRS Records and went to Warner Bros. So I wonder if that had something to do with it. I had a friend who loved REM back then so I broke and bought Eponymous, and I liked it, but not enough to get the actual albums.
btw - the Stop Making Sense night at the Woodland is FULL! There's a wait list. I'm hoping they add a second night or maybe add a second showing.

The IRS/Warner transition was a hot topic — at least in my neck of the South — when Green arrived. Also, after the previous album, Rolling Stone had put R.E.M. on its cover and declared them America’s best band, adding to the strain.
To my ears, the shift in their sound started earlier, with Lifes Rich Pageant. It remains a favorite.

There’s a vinyl shop coming to the stores on ridgewood road - I think it should be open pretty soon.
It’s open now, and I liked it a lot. Excellent selection — I walked out with Patti Smith, Rufus, Dr. John, Friends of Distinction, Weather Report and Love Sculpture — and the prices seem reasonable. (Well, reasonable for my interests. Whether the discs with three-digit stickers were fairly priced, I couldn’t say.)

I have a couple of Rufus LPs. Dr. John on CD.
