The Putin Summit - God help us.

when I woke this morning I did not expect to find this international relations horror. The continued train-wreck that serves Trump's ego, yes, but not this.

( may I just say that I find Mike Pence's comments as cringe-worthy as our Peter Dutton's on immigration? *shudder*)

Everything I'm reading internationally agrees with you that this is an horrific development, a setback and probably a constitutional crisis:

I've come up with an explanation. Ivanka is carrying Putin's child.

snort! (Is that still trademarked?? Sigh)

Another could be that she's designed a new Cabbage Patch-style Babushka doll in his image for sale in the new Empire...

oh no! Why did I think that?? Now I'm too nauseated for breakfast!

Melania has decided The White House needs a bit of revamping.

I hear Pussy Riot want to borrow your tank...

we have a delightful radio program that has been known terrify politicians when they remember its existence. How Green Was My Cactus deserves a US counterpart:

http://cactus.com.au/cactarians/

(You can listen free, but you need to subscribe. Eps are not too long)

@joanne have you heard Randy Rainbow?

This might be of interest. The radio program itself airs in about 35 mins I think; you can hear it online. The link is in the header at the top of the page under Programs, as well as linked in the article.

This tv actor is just a symptom of these ills. If we do not enact term limits and keep electing the chuck schumers and the mitch mconnells we will continue to spiral in the wrong direction. Trump is a symptom but he is not the disease. Educate yourself and your children and vote.

Your implication that both parties are somehow equally to blame for this current mess is a total misrepresentation.

  1. The GOP has done nothing but block then President Obama at every turn. In fact McConnell said that his primary(!) political(!) goal was to make Obama a one-term-president. Just think about that sentence for a second. The main goal of one of our two political parties was to make sure that a black president was going to fail (independent of his policies).
  2. The GOP is currently almost fully controlling the country. They have the WH, Senate, House, and majority of governors and state houses. So if this country is going to sh-t now, there is only one side to blame.

 And the courts.

all true and I’ll add that Trump is most certainly not just a symptom or a puppet. He is part of the disease or maybe even a whole different disease.  But he is very much an orchestrator of this and not just some guy who fell into this because of a larger disease.

Why do you need to refer to Mr.Obama as a Black President? He was president regardless of color. This is the problem. People do not need modifiers. Mr Obama stands tall no matter his race.

Mr McConnell is repugnant and disgraceful, Mr Schumer is his mirror image. we have a very broken system. If you need a refresher during President Obama's first term he had all 3 houses as well. Both parties are to blame reread how the affordable care act was passed and reread Mrs Pelosi's comments. We ended up with this Buffoon because of both parties and a distaste for Mrs Clinton that most outside of the Maplewood bubble understood.

You have a very bad, very distorted mirror in your hand.

Name one thing Schumer has done that even comes close to matching what McConnell did with Garland.

McConnell devoted himself and the Senate to doing everything he could to obstruct the popularly elected President.  Show us the Schumer analog.

And I don't even like Schumer.

But their sins are quite different. Schumer has not done 1/100 of the destruction that McConnell has.

The far-left is doing high fives. Even Gingrich, some anchors on Fox, and many Republicans are condemning what Trump did yesterday, but the far-left is celebrating.

Just read Greenwald, Aaaron Mate, Max Blumenthal and others on Twitter.

As John Meacham just said on Morning Joe, there has been almost universal condemnation of Trump's performance with Putin. I think Trump hurt himself with Congressional Republicans, who are now going to be much more reluctant to go along with the likes of Devin Nunes, in firing Rosenstein or doing anything to shut down the Mueller investigation.

It's been awhile since dementia was mentioned, but Dr. Jeffrey Sach's suggested that it was worth considering in assessing Trump's behavior. Strange because watching Trump yesterday, resurrected my awareness of some odd traits that I'd seen in ageing relatives. Maybe it's just wishful thinking because it would be a way out of another term. Trump supporters wouldn't elect someone exhibiting signs of full blown confusion. Or would they?

We all heard it clearly when Trump said he believed Putin over his own people. Not Obama's left over people. His people.

Heard Scaramucci on New Day say his pal Trump needed to "clean this up." Why? If he cleaned up his statements, he would just be lying. He does believe Putin over his own intelligence. He does believe that "both sides" were wrong.

What we saw was him going off the rails regarding the 30k emails, him stanning for Putin, and him denouncing US intelligence agencies. He's afraid to admit to Russian hacking because he believes that it changes the legitimacy of his presidency. He won. No doubt of that, but he won with bot assistance and fake news.

That’s the problem. Trump’s sole mission in life is to prove he isn’t just some common dirt bag. He will sacrifice anything in pursuit of this goal. This is his only compass in life.

The thought that he couldn’t beat a girl (HRC) in the election without outside help especially rankles him.

There is hope - provided Mueller can stay. Marcy Wheeler, of https://www.emptywheel.net/ went to the FBI and is now a witness in the case. She was a guest on a podcast yesterday. It's worth a listen. Wheeler's part starts at 48:40.

eta - This is the post Wheeler wrote explaining her reasons for going to the FBI.

I referred to Mr Obama as a black president, because I believe that's why the GOP blocked him. All this code language about his birth certificate, that he wasn't a real american, that he wasn't a real christian, etc.; I think it all meant "he is not like us, because he is black". Shame on the GOP for stoking all this racism. Your statements that somehow because McConnell is a disgrace, his Democrat peer must also be a disaster is false. There is no symmetry here. I am not saying the Democrats are perfect, but they are mostly responsible and normal. The GOP went into the abyss of populism and racism, the Democrats didn't. So stop implying they are both equally to blame.

Oh please, so after this Trump performance you think the most newsworthy fact is that the far-left is basically saying "I told you so"? Well, they did, and they were right. And the GOP supported Trump and will continue to support him and therefore deserve to be voted out of office, every single one of them.

gerritn - I meant that the far-left, and it really is just some on the far-left, are still arguing that Russia didn't hack. It's almost as if they're making Putin's case for him.

It's a very small minority, but it is there. It's where Paul, Nan, Greenwald, etc. meet the alt right.

To this point, Obama had control of the House for 2 out of his 8 years and full control (that is, enough Senators -60 - to override a filibuster) for only 4 months out of those 8 years. So technically, in 8 years of office, Obama had a 4 month window to push his agenda through without having to compromise to the Republicans.

And the poor way the affordable care act was passed and rolled out caused that. This country is a round whole and congress is a square peg. It is time we all sing the same tune.

PS Mr Trump has lost many in his party as will be witnessed in November when even this Conservative will vote with the Liberals. You will then see this 2 year reign in the house and Senate end.. and Hopefully we live through President Pence as this tv star is impeached.
