THE GRATEFUL DEAD THREAD (JGB, FURTHUR, RATDOG, PHIL & FRIENDS, PHISH etc.)

Call me crazy, but I'm one of the few (?) that absolutely hated Donna.

Shouldn't you be at the gym working off those Maplewoodstock beers you consumed?

I'm not a fan of her singing (if you can call it that) either.

I'll be working off the beers Fri and Sat night in Brooklyn!

Anybody know how early they open the parking lots in Brooklyn?

Heh, glad to see I'm not crazy. "Gone are the days...", as the song goes. I'm surprised no one commented on the lineup for the Dark Star Jubilee. Come on guys! 7 Walkers and Donna the Buffalo! Jorma! Keller Williams! Dark Star Orchestra, plus many others.

....no?....OK, I tried.....

It's just hard to get excited since it's in Ohio. If youre ever get chance to see the band Cornmeal who is also playing there, do it as they are a great band. Rumors have been flying about a sort of GD reunion at Gathering of the Vibes in CT thats coming up soon. Phil & Friends are playing as are Weir, Hornsby, Mickey Hart Band and 7 Walkers. Not sure what the state of the bad feelings are between Billy and the Furthur camp, but I guess we'll see.

Yeah, I know. I was just impressed with the sheer depth and breath of that lineup. It's sort of like a tree graph of jam bands that center around the Dead. All these offshoots and new bands that model themselves after their music. It's also far reaching, as it goes beyond what the Dead could have done if Jerry were still alive. It makes me think of Jimi Hendrix, in some ways. Think about what he accomplished by the time he was 27 and died. Decades later, it's still as fresh and exciting as the time he recorded it. Also, think about all the musicians (not just guitarists) who have been inspired by him. That's sort of like what that lineup reminded me of.

I'm going on YouTube to look up Cornmeal now, thanks. As far as a GD reunion? Feh, not so interested. That is sort of like thinking about a Faces reunion, or maybe even Cream. Seminal as they were, I don't think you need to recreate or even try to re-assemble those bands. I was just watching the Cream reunion the other day, and though very fun to watch it was almost an excersise in futility for me. All of those musicians have gone so far past Cream that it came almost came off like a hokey gathering. To further prove my point, take a look at Woodstock. How many times have they tried to do that one again? It finally ended in a hot mess back in the 90's (I think?), and they are still trying to bring it back. Don't bring it back, guys. The Stones have been playing for 50 years and we know where that one went.

All one man's opinion, of course.

Great show last night, but I still miss Jerry.

Greatest story was pretty hot, scarlet-fire was amazing, weather report was awesome, Built to last was killer too.

Heh, did you block that song with a sharpy and a pen on purpose? Looks like it was a good show.

I hear you about Jerry - probably why I have no interest in this incarnation.

Monjay, you're loss if you don't want to see Furthur. The photo above comes from the Furthur website. Sat night was killer too.. Friggin wiped from 2 straight days of over the top music!

Brooklyn is a cool venue. It was relatively easy to get a great view on the floor. My highlight was when they stopped the ticket line from entering the stadium for a moment. We were wondering why until Phil walked in about 15' in front of us. As we were leaving pretty much the same thing happened. He comes across as such a great guy as he had a big smile and wave for everbody. Driving back and forth was a breeze. Second set was killer last night. I would suggest not writing Furthur off until you've seen them at least once. John isn't Jerry but he does have great chemistry with Phil and Bobby, as does the rest of the band.

I love John and Joe Russo.

Hat Trick - was that Friday when Phil was in front of you? When we got there Friday Phil was locked out waiting for someone to let him in.

The way I look at it is this is the best Dead cover band your ever going to see, so if you love live music and you love the dead and miss it badly go see Further.

Here's a killer set list, sorry to have missed this one.

It was Saturday. My girlfriend has known Joe Russo since childhood in north Jersey and tried to get in touch with him to possibly meet up at the show, but since this is is home turf I'm sure he had a million people trying to get a minute of his time.

Tomorrow's Jerry's 70th birthday--anyone interested in going to see the Grateful Dead movie in E. Hanover?

ooh, look how young!

I was going to head into the city to see Billy K but the venue raised the price to "too steep". Anyone up for lifting a few to the man and listening to the Good 'Ol Grateful Dead.

too steep was right...Jerry knows we love him! :-D
