Not because I want to be a total downer, but I actually agree with this article http://www.huffingtonpost.com/stewart-sallo/ladies-and-gentlemen-not-_b_6831912.html?utm_hp_ref=entertainment&ir=Entertainment

Exactly it's a money grab

Disagree completely with the money grab scenario. Prices are very reasonable when compared to other acts that play stadiums and there are only 3 shows (2 more rumored for California the week before Chicago). If this were a true money grab it would be pricier down in front and they would do more shows. This could easily have been a tour of 5 or 6 venues with much higher ticket prices and all the add-ons that come with it.

Personally, I'm really hoping for a PPV scenario for 50 to 100 bucks for the weekend.

Meh, I miss the old days here where we could get a good discussion going on this. As the song goes, "Gone are the days......". I was at least looking for someone to challenge Trey over Warren, or tell me they got mail order tickets (when they were over-promised and under delivered).

While I have always liked the Grateful Dead, my exposure has been fairly limited to their top 10 or so most famous tracks. I recently listened to the "new" live recording from the Nassau Coliseum and it's been a revelation to me, particularly the second half with Branford Marsellis sitting in. The music playing is so interesting and jazzy, and then they come back to the lyrics of a great rock song--for example, Knocking on Heaven's Door. I know I'm 50 years late to the party but I'm glad that I've finally caught on. I'm now exploring some other live albums--Rolling Stone likes Dick's Pick's Nos. 4 and 8, which I'm focusing on. I may also go back to Europe 72, which is one of two Dead records my family had in the 70s and 80s--the other was Skeletons in the Closet. (We also may have had Dylan and the Dead; someday, I need to listen to that to see why RS and others give only it 1 star. Considering how much I love Dylan, I would have thought it might have been great.) I'm also thinking of checking out the Dead cover band that will be playing SOPAC in April. Long Live the Dead!

The Nassau show with Branford was my first live dead show in high school and got me hooked.

Got my tickets, hope SOPAC can handle the wall of sound.

After thinking hard about it for a while, I decided not to try the mail order (that was when it still seemed reasonably possible to get tickets, and when doing the mail order seemed nostalgically fun).

I really don't want to be at these shows (although I will pay-per-view them if the price is not outrageous). I had a strong sense that the era that I fondly recall could never be reproduced, and I didn't want to taint my cherished memories - Scoring 20th row seats at the Carrierdome for $20 each for my first show in 1982, seeing my first and only St. Stephen at MSG in 1983, weekend-long adventures at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, 9 nites at MSG with Bruce Hornsby sometime around 1990, The Nassau Branford show......on and on....

It would be great, I think, to use this thread over the next few months to share some of those memories...what were your salad days with the Dead?
