The Burger Thread

I was at a high-end 1-Michelin-star restaurant on the Upper West Side Tuesday night (Essential by Christophe) that offers a highly-rated hamburger. I asked for it medium rare but was told the chef will cook it the way he thinks it should be cooked. It came out very rare.  It was still yummy but I typically like it not so rare.

I prefer medium.

I order medium because it usually comes out of the kitchen medium rare grin

For me- the best burger around is at Lorena’s, especially when washed down with a soma amber ale.  I also enjoy them at the gate or coda.  For home cooking- absolutely N&K burgers.  And for those that have not yet had the N&K pork chops ( bone in) what are you waiting for.  So delicious

The pork chops at N&K are insane - they're nicely marbled and melt in your mouth.

this is true.

Have you had their lamb sausages? All varieties are so good -- Turkish, Moroccan, and if you like a little spice, merguez. Serve with tzatziki on the side.

ok, I trekked over to 22.  Place is ok.  I tried out their BBQ burger and masala fries.  Everything was ok.

I think a good rating for food would be - how far would you travel for it?  I might try this place again if it was downtown - but probably not a Route 22 trip.  But then again - what place on 22 is worthy of a Maplewood drive there?  hmmm  If I'm on 22 already, I'd probably hit White Castle.   grin

Overall, I think they have a good concept.  They probably do decently with online ordering.  I was there around 12:30 - pretty much the only one there.  They have free wifi - but they didn't know the password.  Target audience seemed to be the college crowd with a bunch of promotions centered around them.

That tomato is not ripe.  Not that I would care, as I remove any tomatoes, as they are duplicative of ketchup.

A tomato is no more duplicative of ketchup than a pretzel is duplicative of beer.

For anyone with a Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, I highly recommend the grinder attachment - N&K's got nothing on my home grind (for choice of cuts and size of grind - bigger the better!).  Also, I've been shocked at how good the regular burgers (vs. buffalo or other exotics) at BGR in SO are.
