Sanchez on Administrative Leave from Columbia High School

In any school (general or special education) there are likely rules around restraint, and often start with the idea that only trained personnel are allowed to restrain students.  I have no idea whether or not principals receive this training. I suspect that by the time this is over we will hear all about what these rules are.

I wonder what Jesus or Joe Clark would have done.

Is the investigator's "supervisor" the Superintendent? If the investigator didn't submit the report to his supervisor, what did he do with it?

Some answers in the released report from the second investigation, courtesy of Village Green: The supervisor was someone in the Cooper Levenson law firm, and the original investigator, a lawyer from that firm who left unexpectedly, gave the draft “solely to the client and counsel,” which I gather was the district administration.

And contrary to some earlier characterizations, including mine, the draft report apparently was given a vetting by a supervisor — and found wanting. The supervisor said he and the original investigator had “agreed that there were a number of issues in the report that needed to be further investigated, reviewed and addressed.” When the investigator left the firm, the supervisor set out to resolve those issues himself, he said, but his efforts were restricted by law enforcement, which had gotten involved by then.

Is it possible that adults in our community are using this issue to further their own agendas at the expense of Principal Sanchez and CHS?  I mean, that almost never happens, but there is always a first time.

Whatever would give you that idea?

This has been happening over and over in our district for several years.

So the Ledger reports that the student is being represented by council.  Why? Is she being charged with anything? If the principal was trying to prevent her from attacking another person, should she be charged with assault?

Or is a lawsuit against the district and Frank pending? If so, what damage did she suffe-- Oh, I forgot, maybe don't wanna waste a good grift..

If I was on the jury, it would be worth $10.00 or maybe $15.00 for emotional stress.

However, the district's insurance company will likely fold like a cheap camera and offer $50k to go away. Attorney gets 1/3 of that. If I am wrong, I would like to know if the attorney's work is pro bono.

It's only a matter of time before the lawsuits are filed.  My prediction is that the student will file a suit, the BPW could file a suit, and if Sanchez is not convicted of anything he will file a suit against the district (at a minimum).

Somewhere, there's a marina full of people wondering what SOMSD means on the back of that lawyer's 40-foot yacht.

my interest in CHS is personal — my husband, his brother, along with our four children all graduated from Columbia. Back in the day I was also very involved in the PTA, so the school district has been always of interest to me.

Yes - this has been discussed here - please keep topics separate: https://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/n-j-school-district-apologizes-for-inflammatory-message-about-israel-ramadan

Student assaulted yesterday by students from another high school… which other high school?

The actual quote from the letter is “One of our students was assaulted outside the school building by a number of individuals who do not attend CHS”.

No mention of another school.

I found a different news article that does reference a quote by “authorities” but it doesn’t attribute the quote to anyone in particular. This quote does mention students from another high school being involved.

From the NYTimes:

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/11/nyregion/nj-principal-student-assault.html

Here's the first few paragraphs:

In a high school lobby in New Jersey, the principal saw a student heading toward a stairway and moved to cut her off. There was physical contact between them, though no blows.

The interaction lasted less than a minute.

The student filed an affirmative action complaint against the principal, saying that he had grabbed her and “slammed” her against a wall. The student is Black; the principal is white and Latino.

The principal, reporting the episode later that day, said he was preventing an altercation between the student and three others, who said she had threatened them.

Over the months that followed, those roughly 60 seconds, captured partially on video, have divided neighbors across two towns, spawned two investigations and set off a legal process that could end with the principal in prison.

The article answers my question. The administration union is providing legal counsel.
