Running for BOT - 3 incumbent Trustees are uncontested; 2 women competing for VP seat

Nothing is illegal in Essex County politics.

Latest rumor I have now heard from a few people is that Bill Calabrese is thinking of running again. That could make for an interesting race.

That was posted many months ago by a poster who is pretty tuned-in.

If Bill's in, my guess is that The Oracle of MOL might mount a "virtual" out-of-semi-retirement-style counter-campaign. The Oracle never appreciated Mr. C., and has a long memory. This could get messy.
Of course, I could be wrong.

How old would Bill be now?

Thanks Soda, perhaps you'd like to run?

Only if Sbenois will be my campaign manager. But seriously: Aren't things bad enough?

I will be your campaign manager.

I think our slogan should be:

"the faster we ***** things up, the more time we have to fix them"

I also believe most qualified candidates, are smart enough to know that they do not want the role.

this.

anyone who reads MOL and then decides to run should have his/her head examined.

And I'll be your assistant campaign manager.

I want to thank all the little people...

Amen! Or have a very thick skin...

Dearest Wendy,

All I meant by it was that Soda only has enough illegal campaign contributions to pay for one of us and if you really want the gig please take it.

By the way, Maplewood's Prosecutor is a personal friend of mine so I can ask her to go easy on you if the case is tried here.

My goal, Wendy, is to keep you out of prison.

But if you do go to prison Wendy, rest assured that I will bake you a nice treat (just be careful cutting into it !)

All I wanted to do was assist someone who has the potential to be the world's best campaign manager help get this old guy from South Orange elected to something so he can finally stop talking only about First Night and illegal left turns. And now I'm being threatened with prison time? Sheesh. But LL, you still rock of course.

They don't call it death row for nothing.

Gosh, I feel like Chris Christie already!

BTW: You're both fired.

Reminder, we need qualified, smart, gutsy, good decision makers to run for BOT. Only 1 month left to file.

Do you have to live in town to become a trustee?

That's correct. A resident and legal voter for one year as per the Village Charter.

But not village president? cheese

The requirements are the same for both. The VP is a member for the Board of Trustees.

Oh - okay - wonder what that resident was referring to at the last BOT meeting.

Thanks for clarifying cheese

It's funny that when Torpey lived in an apartment, people criticized him for not paying taxes, but others countered that renters pay taxes through their rent. Now that he lives at home, I guess he really is the only "mayor" that doesn't pay taxes.

Mayor Torpey reminds me of Ben Wyatt from Parks and Rec-- Ice Town Costs Ice Clown His Town Crown

The "Wunderkind" article speaks of his apartment downtown:

“If I sued everytime [sic] Torpey botched or circumvented a process it would be a full-time job.” tweets a former trustee. “Nice transparency!” mocks the @AlexTorpay satirical account. More issues get thrown into the complaint soup. Torpey, who lives in a rented apartment down by the train station, gets slammed for not paying a homeowner’s property taxes. And sour feelings linger from a failed bid to both give the unpaid village president a $2,800 annual stipend and change the village charter to formally title his position “mayor” instead of “village president.” The latter is painted as evidence of a self-promotional streak. “Classist,” Torpey calls the assumption that a mayor — er, village president — should work for free."

Only 2 weeks left to file. Has anyone seen anyone out and about getting signatures yet? Do we really want to have an unopposed election?

You get what you pay for-- lesson learned from everyone that didn't vote for Bauer in last election. Its a shame that my fellow SO residents choose to keep trustee David-Ford in her elected position once again. She contributes nothing to that town.
It seems that Sheena and Steve S are the only people really trying hard to make things work there. Good job keeping the lights on. Which reminds me about the time Trustee Levison mentioned over and over again that PSEG will be able to install switches on those gas lamps to conserve fuel and costs. Seems that the same song keeps playing. Happy voting

I filed my papers yesterday.

It's amazing when you go back and read the outrage on some old MOL threads like these, but when it comes time to step up, we just get more of the same. Go ahead...read these threads!
