Have a little pronlem with Free Speech there booby. Perfectly fine to say anything as long as it is in agreement with your little opinion of things. And since you phrased that as a question..........the answer is easily ascertained............No

free speech doesn't mean you aren't going to be told when that speech is tiresome and boring
After you order your drink named after an auto repair place, the bartender comes back after a little while and says that it's going to take him longer to prepare than he told you, plus it's going to cost more than originally planned.

but you won't mind waiting
suggested recipe for the Socket Toomey:
1 oz. Sake
1 oz. Kaluha
Drink through a stainless steel straw.

And he leaves it around the block with your keys under it.

No I have never resented anyone criticizing the content of what I say. It is when those who are in disagreement tell me to STFU. I am offended not only at the middle school level comments that spew out of anyone's computer. If that is not a piss poor attempt at censorship.....tell me what is.
The bar has been lowered to below ground level and the dumbing down of America continues
Sir D.S.
We need parking not another building that will cause even more parking problems .
I have a hard time believing most residents are going to be in favor of the township buying that property at market rate to turn it into a parking lot.
my opinion on this issue is that we're discussing a property within the village business district, zoned for commercial use. The township declared it a property in need of rehabilitation, which gives it some control over how it's eventually used. The last time around, some people criticized the "condemning" of property by the township. But the fact is, with the designation the township and planning board will be able to have some influence they wouldn't have without it.
So the alternatives seem to be:
My concern is that there are people who just want to obstruct and stop anything from happening on the site. Then we get our own mini version of the old Lord & Taylor site in Short Hills, which year after year decays and becomes more of a blight in their business district. And decades later, with neighbors who have never known the site as a thriving business location, development becomes more and more difficult to sell in to those who live nearby.
If a significant number of Maplewoodians want the Toomey site to be parking, or green space, or even if they want the current building to be repurposed, they should start lining up investors and writing up business plans now. Because legally, there's not much the township can do if a developer wants to buy it, develop it in accord with zoning regulations, if there aren't competing bids for the site. It's not sufficient IMHO to just obstruct and complain without making a proactive effort to do something positive on the site. I'd be in favor of it becoming a small park, or having the building repurposed as a cafe. But I'm also honest enough to say I'm not going to put any of my personal finances at risk to make that a reality. Maybe someone out there is willing to do that. I'd be in support. But it seems like a long shot to me. That's why I'd rather see people who care trying to influence what happens in a positive way, with a realistic expectation that whoever buys the land isn't likely to be a philanthropist, but a person or group that needs the project to be financially successful.

In fact, it is you who have a problem with understanding Free Speech. There is no violation of Free Speech whatsoever when a private citizen tells another to stop what they are saying. There is no violation until the US Government limits what you can say.
It is one thing to yammer on endlessly about the same things (oh woo is me, I don't like what happened to the post office; oh heaven forbid someone like coffee other than Village Coffee...) but it is quite another to accuse people of censorship or violation of free speech with out an once of accuracy.

so you're saying that he keeps using that word, but you do not think it means what he think it means?
Ml1 - Just a correction. The unoccupied site in Millburn was Saks. Lord and Taylor's was where CVS and Trader Joe's are now. I really miss that L&T.

I thought the TC would never sell one of the most valuable plots in town for a net of a few hundred thousand dollars, but they did. They also forced the Women's Club to pay property taxes and then bought the building when the Women's Club had to sell. They have a history of bad real estate deals.
Maplewood should buy and develop the property into something like this -->
. . . . and then sell it to someone for $1 to manage it

In as simple a sentence as I can render, It matters not what the subject being discussed..............if one is told to "shut up" ..........it is an attempt at silencing the speaker or writer.

Actually, I was merely answering your question "And how would you define the phrase "give it a rest"?", with my opinion of what it meant. Seems perfectly clear to me. I don't see the need to go on endlessly about being censored.

Well I have to admit that is a more civilized reply than STFU .
You get a yellow star on your chart and can be hall monitor for the day.
Historical Context: Town Hall Deli left a perfectly good location on S.O.A. to buy the Midas Muffler shop on Valley, doing a complete gutting, decontamination, and remodeling of that space, and then for some reason decided to move to its current 1st St. location, completely redoing that space as well.
And remember The Garage in Millburn (a good example of a failed business plan)? They took over an old auto shop, too...
That said, I think that Toomey's could become a nice eatery if the vision, execution, and business plan come together. BTW: Love the location...

One member of the current TC was in office when all those things happened. So no matter what one thinks of any of those deals, it was mostly different people who made them.
And none of that addresses the question of whether taxpayers would want to buy that property just to turn it into 20 parking spaces. I could be wrong, but I think most people would find that a bad deal.

can you please at least edit out the long list of previous quotes? On a phone, It's absurd and really annoying to have to go through hundreds of lines of text to get to a two sentence reply.
Promote your business here - Businesses get highlighted throughout the site and you can add a deal.
