Proposal for Tuscan/Seth Boyden merger?

Mama bear, it is also about working out the kinks and that first cohort will be a part of that. So yes selfish again, like the commute. Also I would think they would want the changes to affect the least amount of people as possible, not all of the Tuscan and Seth Boyden communities.
One of the positive aspects of the Demo program 20 years ago was that it had the least INVOLUNTARY impact on people. Perhaps more people total were affected than some other options (I don't know), but a large number of those impacted where the opt-in families, who took that impact (busing, changing schools, etc.) by choice.

Right about the time We started at Tuscan, school start time changed from 8:30 to 8:40 which messed up a lot of train goers' commutes. It happens, it's an inconvenience, but it's not about the commuters, it's about what works best for the district overall. I remember the issue at the time was related to busing—although not many kids are bused to Tuscan there were some, and changing the start time eliminated the need for another driver which saved thousands of dollars.
I remember that vividly as it was 2001. I was really unhappy about it. But about a week later, on 9/11, I am convinced that the start time change saved some M/SO lives because many parents were still trying to figure out their before-school options and were late to work.

The more things change, the more things stay the same...

That is really eerie to think about.

On the other hand ,The continuity of a K-5 school is a positive . Moving kids for 3rd grade and then again for 6th can make for difficult transitions. Families having kids in 3 schools over the course of K-8 can be problematic
The only difficult transitions would be for parents. I had kids in 3 schools forever. The kids never thought twice about it. Time to grow up parents.

But is aSB/Tuscan pairing actually being discussed at the BOE level or are we discussing rumor?

My kid was in Kindergarten the first year of the Marshall-Jefferson pairing, he is an adult now, and we all lived.
ETA He loved riding the school bus.

One thing I can say with great confidence after quite a few years in the community and schools here: Whatever happens will be of much greater consequence and worry to the parents than the kids. The kids are going to be fine.

Why not rent and use St Joseph's School for the overcrowded conditions at Tuscan ?
Would re zoning children from a section of Tuscan to St Joseph's help relieve that congestion .?

Those in the NEW school would have an opportunity to redesign the educational focus of the new school.
It might even resolve some of the unsafe traffic issues ..

It's worth noting here that the other option years ago was to design magnet schools in all of the elementary schools
and that years later the Marshall - Jefferson concept is not universally accepted .

Please. Nothing is ever "universally accepted".

And we don't need to rent space when we have space we already own.

Montclair used (uses?) this model, and it has not solved these types of issues.

Does anyone have any insight into the key factors used in BOE decisions (based on similar, historical decisions)?

When they made the decision to implement the Demo school, I recall a lot of community discussion/input, but I don't remember the mechanisms of that.

This is all based on rumor.  Merging with Tuscan was merely a suggestion thrown out there, but is not being looked at seriously as per BoE meetings and community meetings at SB.
