Peeple - social media hits its nadir

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready to rate the founder.

If you read the article, the founder got rated by a lot of people and it was not a good score.

I predict peeple will fail, and if it doesn't fail, it won't have much influence. That's coming from a person who rarely makes predictions.

I hope you are correct, Tom.

That being said, I worry because I see how happy people are to be able to shout their feelings to the world about individuals already, even without the app. For instance, there is a thread about the soon-to-be-former principal of Clinton School. She's received the equivalent of seven 5-star reviews and a 1-star review.

So the vulnerability of this app in my mind is that you need to be a registered user in order to have any negative reviews. I'm sure enough people will sign up so they can write reviews of other people. And then there's a large base of people who can be negatively reviewed. The app doesn't need to get everyone signed up, just enough that the associated ad revenue will pay the bills and the owners.

Isn't it enough to complain about people you don't like without having to pay to make the complaint public? How small minded can people get???

Do you see the period at the end of your sentence? Imagine 100 pinheaded minds within it.

Now you know...

Hearing about the best and worst things that happen on yikyak, I have hope for the human race. There was overt racism expressed in real life and on yikyak at Colgate University. Professors checked in just so people would know they were there. The racism died out, only because students knew they would be heard by professors.

Some people say they are tempted to commit suicide and announce it on yikyak. Enough people pipe in and offer true condolences and make friends.

yikyak is like twitter but your messages only go a mile or two. All messages are completely anonymous. You would think it would lead to abuse, but messages can accumulate up or down votes, and if a messages gets enough down votes, it is removed. If a user gets enough messages removed, the user is banned.

I think it shows that there is bad and good, but good wins out, I guess because the rules of the game allow it.
