Interesting that none of those initiatives are promotion of birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

But hey let’s not eat meat on Friday because that will help (though I am very pro eating less meat!).

there is exactly nothing in that initiative that supports mothers or children.

Imagine if we took the same attitude toward gun safety conservatives urge toward abortion -- we'd encourage culture of machismo and glorification of violence and rail against any attempts to encourage safe gun usage and insist that if anyone used guns irresponsibly it must be a purely personal problem, maybe a mental health issue, and that sadly there was just nothing to be done.

Imagine if we took the same attitude toward pandemic diseases, we'd shrug our shoulders and say I guess people just have to die but you certainly can't expect men to wear [facial] protection or keep their distance.

Imagine...wait, I think I see a trend here.

Since this subject has been dragged in here -- mtierney, what are your thoughts on the situation in Texas where the state is preventing a woman with a doomed pregnancy and a very real threat to her own life from having an abortion?

I wonder if she's even aware of it.

lordy lou, Ohio takes a step away from the abyss

Ohio governor vetoes ban on gender-affirming care for minors

oh, well, back into the abyss

wonder where the rally is. I'm free tomorrow.

hmm. only an hour away. and there's a counter protest. sounds like a plan, though tomorrow's weather looks to be a bit dicey.

in the very definition of pandering, Governor DeWine signs an order banning a thing that doesn't happen in Ohio

Ohio governor signs executive order banning gender surgeries for minors

from the article

Nick Lashutka, the president of the Ohio Children’s Hospital
Association, previously testified in the state legislature that
children’s hospitals in the state don’t perform any surgeries on minors
as treatment for gender dysphoria, according to NBC affiliate WCMH of Columbus.

You can't have a witch hunt unless you make people believe in witches.

so I went to the Christian Nationalism counter protest in Norwalk Ohio.

the local county, Huron, went for Trump 18,956 to 7,759. yikes

Turnout was small - 20 people on each side, more or less.

We stood across the street. Respectful. No heckling under orders of the organizer.

Could barely hear the speakers.

I thought we had better signs. Some of theirs made no sense. "worship is warfare" what? Doesn't sound very Jesus like,

It was snowing. Froze my hands off.

Broke up after an hour.

meh

Good that you showed up and made your/our voices heard, in some way!

Obviously begs the question of what sort of protest is most effective. Just seems like it is increasingly only about money, unless the numbers are too large to be ignored.

yeah, what struck me about this protest is that it was so brazenly supporting something that is so obviously un-American. How can you learn about the search for religious freedom that prompted our founding, learn about the 1st amendment, which is pounded into our heads constantly, and then turn around and rally for Christian Nationalism? WTAF?

People are opting to stay away from protests out of fear. We are in essence devolving into a banana republic. Vote and be done.

I would support a ban on gender surgery under the age of 18. The ban would negate the  competition issues which are hurting girls sports.

Gender surgery has absolutely nothing to do with the sports issue.

I'm looking forward to public stonings for adultery - only the women involved, of course.

There are a lot of pissed Republicans (behind closed doors of course).

Please don’t move to Iowa…

first in a possible series highlighting some Ohio loonies

I present State Rep. Jennifer Gross. Click to see her response. She is an anti-vax nut.

I'm living in Oklahoma now. I guess we could make this a competition.

I don't even understand what she meant in her response to the tweet.
