November 2020 (or maybe January 2021)- If Trump Loses

My anxiety level has dropped considerably this week. The ineptness of Trump's legal challenges has been encouraging.

I'll have a wary eye out this Saturday. Hopefully the demonstrations are peaceful and any counterprotests are low-key. I'm not crazy about the Democratic crowing that's happening.  Trump is unpredictable and I worry that the big "You're Fired" sign in front of the White House will further provoke his efforts to overturn the election results.

January 20th I'm all for a full month of gloating.

I'll still be somewhat anxious until the Electoral College votes.

Tempted to start a separate thread for this - here's more info on the Trump March:

EVENT DETAILS

WASHINGTON, D.C. | November 14 @ 12:00pm

Democrats are scheming to disenfranchise and nullify Republican votes. It’s up to the American people to stop it.

Along with President Trump, we will NOT back down to ensure the integrity of this election for the good of the nation. This is a coalition/team effort. We need boots on the ground to protect the integrity of the vote.

----------------------------------------------------

It's such an all star cast.  I really hope Biden supporters aren't planning too many counter protests.

I always wonder, what's the ratio at these things of people who really believe this vs people who know it's all BS but are cynically along for the ride? And is it a good sign or bad one that they're at least using the language of democracy rather than flat out declaring their desire to overturn a legitimate election?

Trump did predict that we wouldn't know the election result for weeks, months or possibly years.  Looks like he's trying to make that a reality.

I still don't get the coup he's trying to do with the military and intelligence.  Time will tell, but right now - he's flailing.  Maybe he's hoping the secret service will all get sick with covid so that he can bring in the Proud Boys to protect him?

Because #math.  They finally acknowledged even if they were correct about the >200 votes which they claimed were disqualified due to smudges, it would not overcome Trump's vote deficit.  Math never seemed to be anyone on the Trump team's strength.

Pretty sure they all knew it was pointless, but figured heck if they're going to throw money at it, we can at least make a half-assed attempt for show.

It's all just a scam to fleece more money from the rubes.  All of the money going to "stopthesteal" and the litigation fund are now actually going, in the first instance, to Trump's newly formed leadership PAC.  He can use this money pretty much however he wants, including to subsidize his lifestyle.  In that sense, the litigation strategy will likely prove to be very successful.

And, of course, they knew it was a sham and the lawyers should be subject to discipline.

Getting closer and closer to seeing Trump's taxes as they're entered into evidence in a criminal lawsuit.

I do wonder how much longer this farce will continue. Do you think he'll come out and address the massive throng of Trump supporters who will gather today in DC? Maybe he wants to keep his fan base believing until that's over.

Given what is waiting for him after he leaves office I'm starting to second guess my belief that he'll resign before January 20th. I can believe he'll stay hunkered down in the White House hoping for some miracle to save him.

He'll fly to FL for Thanksgiving and never return to DC.

I believe he will continue to hold rallies, starting today. He will rally through until the Georgia run off senate vote. Then accept the results. Hopefully by then more republicans will be jumping ship.

What do you mean by "accept the results"? He will be crying "fraud" for the rest of his life.

Let us not hedge about one thing. Donald Trump may win or lose, but he will never concede. Not under any circumstance. Not during the Interregnum and not afterward. If compelled in the end to vacate his office, Trump will insist from exile, as long as he draws breath, that the contest was rigged.

From that Atlantic article outlining the post election worst-case scenario. Thankfully the vote count was decisive enough to avoid that nightmare scenario, but this above, central insight I think remains absolutely true.

I think so. He needs to keep his base ginned up for 2024.

We need to stick it to the deep state and socialist, commie, anarchist frauds who so unjustly denied me my rightful second term. If not for him then for one of his deplorable offspring.

Adding:

Not just the base ginned up but also grifting from the rubes. Look at the latest scam where they donate money that supposedly pays the legal expenses for his re-election challenges. The fine print, which is needed to prevent fraud prosecution, says that's not where the money is going but the rubes won't be reading that. They'll donate because they're told the election is fake. Getting millions to do this beats the Trump university scam by a mile.

And that hurts the Presidential ambitions of other Republicans.

Will Marco Rubio or someone like him run on a platform of restoring the Trump regime?

Here's a question -- putting aside the prudence of launching investigations of your political opponents, suppose all of Trump's corruption, crimes, and foreign entanglements were cataloged and laid bare once he loses the protection of the presidency. Would it matter, or would his supporters still rally to him? Is there a line he could cross that would disqualify him in their eyes?

Sadly, it would seem that until they are directly and personally adversely affected by GOP policy, GOPers will support anything no matter the level of cruelty.

Yes. Look at how Trump previously insulted him. But now he's all if for Trump. He follows the wind. Or Cruz. They're craven.

When family member get sick of COVID and even when they die they still support him though its been shown Trump's lack of action increased the virus rate here by a multiple of three.

Look at NYC cops who overwhelmingly support Trump and Republicans. But they will be directly and personally effected when police is defunded not because of demonstrations but due to lack of funding. Its Trump and the Republicans who have preventing federal aid to states.

Over the years we've seen people directly hurt by Republican policies still vote Republican.

So about 12,000 MAGA heads could be assed to show up to demonstrate in DC Saturday. Compare that to the 700,000 in the Women's March.

gun sales are way up. (usually that happens when the Dem wins)
ammo in short supply.

watch the video to see a couple of heavily armed whackaloons.

The whole GOP deserves credit for this too, they have been working on getting us here for decades.

they seem nice

Who would have thought that Donald Trump would deliver the House, the Senate and the Presidency to Dems in only four years?  Who knows? They may keep the Republicans split for decades.

Wow, at what point can the flight crew decide to just land someplace?  Some point after shouting and projection and hopefully before wrestling in the aisles?

Trump actually made America great again...

Each day the videos released become more horrifying. Some from the first day showed people wandering around in the Capitol taking selfies but since then I am watching the violence in disbelief.

After Biden won, I tried to adopt the attitude that I would ignore Trump's antics. I didn't want him to give them any oxygen.

I never saw this coming even when discussions right here on MOL explored the possibility. First to say, I was naive.

Most of the hundreds of people on my FB friend list were outraged, but a few rescuers who rarely mentioned politics came out from the shadows as Trump supporters.

I had to chose between engaging in debate, unfriending or watching what was being said. I did a little of each.  I wanted to understand how some of these people think. As our daily world on FB is networking to get help with emergency situations involving animals, people in the rescue community fear breaking any ties. Help is hard to come by but how do you work with people who support this maniac, no matter how passively? Happy to say they are in the minority.

I made my opinions very clear and called on those who say they don't engage in politics to join those of us who do adding "Your country is at stake."
