New Falafel Place in Millburn Mall?

Hubby and I ordered take-out from here last week on Friday night.  They have "Falafel Fridays" celebrations going on now with live music -- last week was a guy on keyboards and singing, and another on a big string bass.  Good vibe, people looked happy and BYO wine.  Our choices were packaged and presented nicely and food was so delicious.  Tried the falafel, a cheesey danish-like pastry, a sausage and pepper appetizer (this was a little too saucy for me, but tasty), and a sandwich (hawawshi, minus bread but over rice to be GF) with the Porto Salad (the dressing was so good I wanted to drink it).  Will definitely go back!

oh, that's great that they are willing to do GF like that. I usually just do an assortment of appetizers. Will have to look into that salad.

We went to Springfield and ate in at Moroccan Kebab. I don't recommend eating in -- the service was slow, atmosphere was nil, and servers were taciturn. We were about to pan the place...

But then the food came out. And it was wonderful! Fresh, flavorful, surprising. We loved it.

From now on, we'll do pick up rather than dine-in. But *highly* recommend.

I very much looked forward to this place and we tried it recently for take out.  Unfortunately, every item we ordered was sub-standard to Falafelly Yours (which, also unfortunately, is far from the pinnacle of middle eastern food).  Chicken shawarma was not true shawarma (and had an odd, acidic flavor), lamb kebabs were tough / gristly, hummus was flavorless, falafels were over cooked and dry, lentil soup was very thin and lacking flavor.  Pitas were fluffy, fresh and tasty.  Maybe it was an off-night, YMMV.

The place was very clean and cheery.  Very nice staff and food was ready when they said it would be ready.

I agree, lanky.  Sadly, subpar.

Went to both Porto and Moroccan Kebab recently.  Very happy that they are both here and create an option.  These are a lot closer to hole-in-wall type joints where you get very good value for money.  Don't expect white linen tables with maitre d's, these are simple family-run establishments that may not be savvy in fine service, marketing or decor, but both are definitely worth checking out imho.  They can be a slow because of short handedness as a small business, but the owners do try and are friendly.  Both joints don't blow a hole in your wallet, you get a lot of food for each menu item, and do serve tasty grub.  Won't head back every week, but will certainly be on my rotation of places to order in or from.

I really liked King Falafel, but they were glacially slow. Porto looked so promising...but we found it not so great. They were using pre-packaged sauces when my husband and I went, and the falafel was bland.

Had forgotten all about the Moroccan kebab place--need to check that out. Thanks for the reminder, Mantram!

Looks like another falafel place is coming to Essex Street in Millburn.  Near the Fidelity.

Sign said "Pita on Essex" Falafel, Schwarma and Grill!

I'm willing to forgive slow service in a small independently owned restaurant or cafe, since I know they don't have some huge corporate powerhouse figuring out how to streamline the kitchen and cut corners. BPS was always painfully slow, but the food was always worth it. I just made sure to not go if I was under a time restriction.
