Any thoughts on Bagels By Jarrett?

I think the issue is the place isn't even open yet so it's peculiar to stridently tout unless you're friend/family or getting paid.

Whatif you go when it opens and the service is lousy, the coffee is tepid, the bagels are gummy and there are flies buzzing around the spreads?

Not saying it's likely but it's possible.

PS I know I just helped the marketing campaign by bumping this thread back up top, but I had to ask. This will be my last post on this thread.

(A) I'm not family, have never met the guy personally, and (2) I appreciate Smedley's offer to quit this thread. Nicely played, Smedley!

I'll revisit this topic once the joint is open (in 90 days?), & report my observations then.

Below: Everything Beagle With Shmear. Stay tuned...

So... everything worth doing takes more time than you think it will. Do you quit? Nope. This guy Jarrett Seltzer has passion, tenacity, social media smarts, and great recipes for bagels & spreads; Bagels By Jarrett ("BXJ") will open THIS MONTH. Look for them in the Metropolitan Plant Exchange mini-mall on Mt. Pleasant Avenue. I'm betting you'll be wowed...

Just so you know...

Is this the thread that was sunk?

Evidently not. Here's review of BXJ from the eminently fair and knowledgeable guys at Bagel Tawk...

...And one for Sonny's from the same crew...

"Wrapped nicely like a beautiful diaper"

oh oh

Sounds good.  Good bagels are the one thing BC is lacking.

...and for good measure, here's one from a place a good many of us have come to know...

I finally made it to Jarrett's. Bagels are great. Almost total coverage for the everything. I had a potato/egg sandwich on a bagel which was also very good. He makes a real dense, creamy scrambled egg.

I'll go back.

What impressed me, though, was the menu. I had no idea it was so extensive. Calling the place "Bagels by Jarrett" kind of undercuts himself.

here's the menu:

$12 for a &$#@ing Taylor ham egg and cheese sandwich?

No thank you. That's nuts.

I’m a big fan of the new bagel place in Millburn near where cait and abbys was, btw.

oh yeah. I forgot how expensive it was. Definitely a minus.

I do have to say though that the sandwich I bought was better than I would get at any other bagel place I can think of. (except for maybe Bagels Abroad. I am partial to their THEC)

I tip my cap at charging 50 cents extra for pork roll. That’s funny.

Humorous, but it doesn't cancel out the chutzpah of charging roughly twice the going rate for a NJ staple.

What's the name of the place? I don't know where Cait and Abby were in Millburn.

The pork roll pricing gave me something: a chuckle, for which I am grateful. The chutzpah I can ignore. Winner: humor.

Bagel Pantry. It's on Millburn Avenue between St. Rose of Lima and Wine Library.

These 'bagels' are not my style at all.  They get stale by the end off the day.  IMO they are overrated and overpriced.

$4.75 for a meat, egg and cheese sandwich has my attention.

This morning I picked up a bacon and egg on a bagel with a medium coffee at a place called The Bagel Spot on Morris Avenue in Union. It set me back $5.99. A very tasty Bagel, a generous amount of bacon.

I haven't tried the sandwiches at Bagel Pantry. I'm a plain bagel guy who likes to toast them at home with cream cheese. They stay pretty good for the next day, too.

Sonny's is my go-to for that application of bagel technology. I always put them into a plastic container to save for the next day and they seem to do pretty well.

Yeah, I just hate downtown South Orange

Better than Sonny's and about 300 feet from our front door (in Hong Kong).

My family and I tried Bagel Pantry today and the food and service were fantastic. Good recommendation!

What kind of bagels do people like?

I was tasked with bringing bagels from Sonnys to a small meeting. I asked the other two what kind they wanted. When the hostess told be "cinnamon-raisin" I really busted her chops. I said that where I come from that is not a bagel!

A bagel is a bread. You can stick any damn thing you want in or on top of it. If it tastes good, great. We have expanded our horizons.

We tried bagels from Jared’s a few days ago. They are not my style. They are not as dense and chewy as I like.

I love a good bagel debate. Or one about Chinese food or pizza. I always end up learning about establishments I’ve never heard of, too. The newish place on Millburn Avenue in Short Hills I recall having excellent iced coffee last summer. Though nobody beats the Bagels 4 You around the corner, with their frozen coffee ice cubes.
