Is there still an indoor mask mandate in Maplewood?

So I have no idea why you’d be self-conscious about masking, especially given the prevalence of masks locally still. Either you want to continue the political aspect of this debate, or you’re just overthinking it.

Have you read the news? The reason someone would be self-conscious is because of people who "want to continue the political aspect of this debate" -

Yes I saw that the first time you posted it, now I've seen it twice. Can we get a hat trick?

You may believe ml1 ditched the mask bc he was self-conscious of what the SoMa Republicans would think of him. I think he's stronger than that.

doesn’t sound like anyone is worried about the soma republicans, it’s the people that roll their eyes….

there are plenty of people right here in this discussion who have said they are judging people in masks.  I was being facetious, but I do think the past two years have shown us that masks are probably pretty good at stopping the spread of colds and flu.  So maybe I will wear a mask in the future if I've got a cold, or if I'm trying to avoid getting one.  Because sometimes it's really inconvenient to get a cold (like when you're supposed to sing and you end up with brutal laryngitis).

My bad, your post didn't seem to be from someone who was aware that had happened.

I have a cold. It's not COVID because I've tested negative twice. I thought about wearing a mask when I'm in shops to protect people from my cold. But then I figured people might be freaked thinking I have COVID or I'm unvaccinated. Or they may judge me as fearfullly irrational and roll their eyes at me. So I went without the mask today. But I made sure my hands were washed.

I visited a couple SoMa establishments including Stop & Shop and Greenway this weekend. I didn’t mask but I’d estimate 75% of people were masked. And everyone went about their business in peace and harmony.

So I have no idea why you’d be self-conscious about masking, especially given the prevalence of masks locally still. Either you want to continue the political aspect of this debate, or you’re just overthinking it.

are those stores still asking people to mask?  Target in Vauxhall still is, and it was 100% compliance as far as I could tell.

Even in towns like Asbury Park which haven't had a mask mandate in weeks, stores like Walgreens are still requesting customers wear masks.  Until we're down to the rates we were at last summer, I think it's reasonable for retail stores where no one is eating or drinking to require masks.  One in five people in NJ still are unvaccinated, and only about 1/3 of us are boosted. Someone standing behind a cash register all day is exposed to a lot of people, and more than a few could be carrying COVID.

Just wondering, why is this clip so significant to you? A gov of a masks-off state scores some cheap political points about masks in front of the camera. It's like at most a 2 on a 1-10 scale of national news significance. In a thread about masks in Maplewood, 1,000 miles away, it's a 1.

But in nohero news, for some reason it's Extra Extra Stop the Presses.

Retail establishments are free to set mask policy as they wish - if they have mandatory mask policy I'll wear one or if I don't have one with me I won't go in.

my question was specifically about Greenway and/or Stop & Shop.  Did they take down their please wear a mask signs?  or did people not even look to notice?

I've worn masks plenty for the past 2 years and never heard any guff from anyone. A friend told me some lout was loudly and crassly berating people for wearing masks outside Jackie's one time a while back but I just thought that was an amusing anecdote that reflected on that individual rather than any reason for the masked people to feel bad. Can't think of any other secondhand reports like that.

sporting events seem to attract people who like to mock people in masks.  The stories I've heard are from sports venues.

Well I still fail to see why DeSantis or DeSantis-like people are a reason to not wear a mask if one wishes to wear a mask. What is this, middle school?

Last I noticed S&S had the standard sign which I think says masks highly recommended if you're not vaxxed. Not sure what the Greenway sign was/is but I saw maskless people in there before I went in there. In general I assume businesses/public buildings follow the town rules unless specified otherwise. SOPL for example still requires masks and that policy is clearly stated on the door.

that's not a question for the people wearing masks.  It's a question for those who taunt them.

Wait until DeSantis is the Republican nominee for POTUS.

It will be very relevant as it speaks to his lack of composure, maturity, and empathy.

As a heads up - SOPAC still requires - mask, vaccination card and ID.  Was there over the weekend.

Meh. You can disagree with DeSantis or find him obnoxious but ultimately he said the students can wear the masks if they want to. Some of the reporting of the incident was so over the top with the pearl clutching IMO, like he "angrily attacked" and "bullied" the students. Give me a break.

If DeSantis is the nominee I think Democrats would be really dumb to try to make the election a referendum on his real or perceived lack of composure, maturity, and empathy. That didn't work in the 2016 election, and DeSantis seems to be well less of a-hole than Trump is (which isn't hard to be).

I was pointing out that your "explanation" ("Either you want to continue the political aspect ...") was assigning the "political aspect" blame on the wrong side. Even in NJ, there are some a**sholes who will carry on about people still wearing masks, and some people just don't want to be hassled.

Thank God. Now this stupid thread can end.

Not even close.  Now we start to BTDH.  This phase typically lasts longer than the original debate.

personally I find the current discussion more interesting than it originally was when it was a simple yes/no.  Now that there's no requirement, we enter into a phase where people have to decide for themselves whether they are comfortable without a mask, and whether they think there are some circumstances in which wearing one is the right thing to do.  It's also when people not wearing masks decide for themselves whether or not to be jerks to people who are.

for instance we have to decide whether or not to mask at the Stone Pony this Friday.  I'm sure the place will be packed, and given the expected demographic makeup of the audience, will probably include a fair number of unvaccinated MAGAs.  Given that I'm boosted, I may not mask, but I'm not sure yet.

Masks are optional for events at the Woodland that are sponsored by the town.  However, persons renting the Woodland for an event still have the option of requiring masking, vaccination, or both if they so wish.

I understand. I'm not comfortable at the moment being in an unventilated room with maybe 200 people close together without being masked. I'm going to another concert this Friday in Montclair. At the moment it seems that the Wellmont has a proof of vaccination or a negative test requirement. Either way I plan on masking up. I have had multiple people around me at work test positive and the only thing I can think of that has caused me to avoid it so far is being masked.

Just found out the Pony and the Count Basie Theater are requiring vaccination/negative test for entry to Light of Day events this weekend.  That's a relief.  So I can have a beer and feel OK without a mask grin

You-know-who probably wanted that level of safety.
