Is there still an indoor mask mandate in Maplewood?

I'm not going to judge what people do with their kids.  Kids up to the age of 5 or 6, sometimes even a couple of years older aren't all that rational.  If they don't get the difference between masking indoors and outdoors, an having them wear one outdoors is a way to make sure they wear one indoors, so be it.

especially if the kid has some sort of health risk.  Going forward, a lot of the people we see in masks are going to be ones with a health risk you or I can't see.  Someone could have just finished a round of chemo for all we know.  Or had a transplant in the past and takes immuno suppressing drugs.

one thing I've learned in my time on the planet is that we can never know what other people are carrying around.  People whose lives look perfect on the outside may be living with struggles we don't see or understand.  So if we see someone still masking up, we have a choice of our own to make regarding what we attribute it to.  I assume they have a health reason for doing so, rather than choosing to believe they're stupid or irrationally afraid.

Conversely, there are people who aren't able to wear masks due to medical or sensory issues like my son.  Based on comments directed at him, there are plenty of people who feel entitled to tell him to put on a mask directly, and probably many more thinking it.

As a general rule, I've been masking when I go out and hope to be judged as I judge others, which is not at all. When I see people inside not wearing a mask right now, I keep my distance. When I get back from the UK next month (fingers crossed) I'll be far more relaxed about the whole thing.

Maybe the people wearing masks outside are doing it to own the MAGAheads. Mission, apparently, accomplished.

Oh my, these past 2 years must have sucked pretty badly. Sorry to hear that.

He's going to keep making new threads until Jamie lifts the mandate.  OP doesn't seem to have a good working understanding of how things work in life.  Might be a little slow.

GoSlugs - what mandate are you talking about? what does Jamie have to do with anything? I don't think the OP is slow at all.

Peter Wick - nobody likes the "rules police"

notupset - I agree, it is ridiculous. When I see someone masked outside I try not to roll my eyes, but it is hard not to. I don't know why any normal rational person would think wearing a mask outside is necessary. And, at this point, masking a child outside just seems plain old cruel.

what business is it of yours whether someone wears a mask outside? And you think rolling your eyes is cool?
Did you see a child crying or complaining while wearing a mask? How is that cruel? It’s none of your business! Wtf is wrong with you people!

On Feb. 7 the OP started a thread titled “Time to end the mask mandate in town.”

On Sunday, I believe, the OP started another thread on the same topic. Jamie replied that the earlier thread sufficed and closed the new one.

The OP then started this thread. I took GoSlugs’ reference to Jamie’s “mandate” as a jest. “Might be a little slow” got personal, but objectively the OP wasn’t quick enough to see Jamie’s response to his or her second thread.

Gee, what about "I feel sick and I don't want to accidentally infect anyone"

I'm old Sometimes I forget to remove my mask when I go from indoors to outdoors or to put it on when I go the opposite way.

Some of us have to consciously remember to zip up after doing our thing. Not there yet.

What were we talking about?

Spouse has discovered that wearing a mask outside on some days has cut way down on his asthma:  in spring/summer/fall, fewer allergens; in winter, less smoke from people's fireplaces, and warmed air.

If you feel you need to comment when you see him wearing a mask outside, please stifle.  If you need to roll your eyes, knock yourself out, but it might be polite to turn your head.  In sum, myob and sheesh, save yourself some stress.

When Mrs. Ski had Covid, and I was quarantining with her 24/7, we both wore masks indoors and outdoors when we were walking our dog or hanging out outside, during the quarantine.

I didn’t catch it during that time.

No - I don’t think rolling my eyes is cool. I am just being honest. Can nobody have a different opinion than you?

You can have opinion you like.

Doesn't mean anyone else has to like it.

The mask mandate is Maplewood has been removed by the TC effective immediately.

Oh please. My cat died years ago.

Not even close.  Now we start to BTDH.  This phase typically lasts longer than the original debate.

Maybe they have allergies that are bothering them.  Why the f$&% is it your business?

They could be suffering from pandemic related PTSD.  After two years+ of being told how unsafe the world has become, some will adjust to the return to "normalcy" more gradually.

Or they’ve discovered a way to draw attention down and away from their uncontrollably rotating sclera.

Okay. The TC has ended the mask mandate.

Stores are now free to set their own rules.

People are free to wear masks wherever they want.

You are free to be a jerk to business owners who want to keep requiring masks in their establishments. You can use statements like “You know the TC ended the mandate, right?” if asked to wear a mask in their store. Exercising that right makes you annoying and an idiot. So don’t do it.

Now that the mask mandate is not in effect, don't be a jerk like Governor Ron DeSantis.

Maplewood Updates COVID-19 Measures Effective Immediately

At the March 1 meeting of the Maplewood Board of Health, Township Committee members voted unanimously in favor of adopting Health Officer Candice Davenport’s recommendations for updated COVID-19 protocol, including:

  • Lifting the Township-wide mask mandate;
  • Lifting proof of vaccine or negative test requirements for Township events; and
  • Maintaining mask mandates for the Township's Jitney commuter service in accordance with Federal transportation guidelines.

In making her recommendation, Health Officer Davenport cited low COVID transmission in Essex County, low COVID case numbers within the Township (128 in February, down from 1,364 in January), and updated CDC guidance on indoor masking. She also noted that vaccination rates within the Township are high: over 90% for Township employees, over 90% for residents ages 12+, and 73% for residents ages 5 to 11. Additionally, she mentioned that the Township will be able to provide increased ventilation for events as the weather transitions into spring and temperatures continue to rise.

Any businesses within the Township who wish to maintain a mask mandate for their employees and/or customers are welcome to do so. Further, individuals are encouraged to monitor their own comfort and risk levels with the virus and mask accordingly.

Thanks Jamie.   I knew you would lift the mandate if notupset just made enough dupe threads.

I'm going to the Stephane Wrembel concert at the  Woodland tonight. I don't know about anybody else, but I'm wearing a mask. It doesn't bother me wearing a mask. I hope it doesn't upset anybody else.

Some businesses still require a mask.  I went to Words yesterday and they still request masks in the store. I have no problem complying with these requests.

I'm in Ohio at the moment - Cleveland area. Hardly anyone is wearing a mask and I haven't worn one in 3 days.

I have a cold. It's not COVID because I've tested negative twice. I thought about wearing a mask when I'm in shops to protect people from my cold. But then I figured people might be freaked thinking I have COVID or I'm unvaccinated. Or they may judge me as fearfullly irrational and roll their eyes at me. So I went without the mask today. But I made sure my hands were washed.

I visited a couple SoMa establishments including Stop & Shop and Greenway this weekend. I didn’t mask but I’d estimate 75% of people were masked. And everyone went about their business in peace and harmony.

So I have no idea why you’d be self-conscious about masking, especially given the prevalence of masks locally still. Either you want to continue the political aspect of this debate, or you’re just overthinking it.
