There is a small line of thunderstorms about 1 - 2 hours northwest of us. We will be on the eastern edge of the activity, with most of the action in a roughly west-east line from Harrisburg, PA to Bridgewater, NJ.
The weather forecast looks like more of the same at least through tomorrow, so why does the heat advisory end at 6:00pm today?
Even at 930 am it was nasty. Trying to talk hubby into taking kids to pool, so I can get some work done.
On another thread, someone just posted a power outage in Newstead.
Oh gosh. I hadn't even thought about it. We're on our way home and I'm kicking myself for not leaving AC on for the dog...
We had a couple of quickie power flutters earlier, but nothing since 4PM...
-s.
Tomorrow, although a bit hotter, will not be quite so humid. For a heat advisory, they would have to expect the heat index (a measure of heat and humidity that accuweather sometimes calls the "real feel") to exceed 100 for at least two hours. With drier air tomorrow, they expect us to just make 100 or fall just short, but not to maintain it for long enough. Expect the city and perhaps even Newark to have advisories, but not us.
The high today in eastern Maplewood was 91. In Newark, it was 97, but Newark's official readings are from the tarmac at the airport, and sometimes run as much as 5° warmer than here.
My thermometer said 96 a couple hours ago and the remote sensor is in a north facing spot under the eaves of our house, so always in the shade and away from any heat generating appliances, etc. (I took a photo and put it on Facebook earlier actually.)

Wunderground station in NW Maplewood (Dunnell & Buckingham) showed a high of 103.3. Current 93.
Mine, too. The truth is probably somewhere in between
