Door to door solicitation

Come on, it's EXTREMELY far-fetched.

For years, I worked in a job where I went into people's homes....while most were neat and clean. some had serious hygiene and cleanliness issues....so I never accept anything homemade unless I know the person.  I got to know people that didn't bath frequently, didn't know enough not to let a dog leash hang between the dogs legs....got stuff on their hands and then touched door knobs and didn't wash.....changed diapers with the baby laying directly on the couch--taking the dirty diaper off ..with the child not cleaned directly on the couch....

I'd prefer the meth inserted in baked goods than this horror show of contamination.

A family member of mine (not local) helps run a church sale which includes a bake sale.  They used to bake all items in the church kitchen.  It was large, and they could keep tabs on quality and, more importantly, cleanliness.  The local Dept of Health came in and said that they could not do that, that as a bake sale they were allowed to bake stuff at home but if they used the church kitchen they would need to have it certified as a commercial kitchen. The volunteers took the recipes home to bake.  One member brought three pies in. My family member looked at one of the pies and saw cat hair sticking out of the crust.  She was polite, thanked her for the pies.  When the member left family member took all three (she didn't even look at the other two pies) and dumped them right in the trash. What really pissed my family member off was that had they been able to bake everything in their kitchen like they had done in previous years this would not have been an issue.  The Department of Health works in some wonky ways.

My $6 "No Soliciting" sign has worked wonders! 1 person in 18 months, and that person was halfway down the steps when I came to the door. He apologized for not seeing the sign.

FYI (from the SOPD Facebook page)

PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING DOOR TO DOOR SOLICITORS:

The following organizations have been granted permission to conduct door to door soliciting:

Renewal By Anderson - Their permit is valid this coming weekend, 4/23-4/24 and they will be in the area speaking with homeowners about replacement doors & windows.

Verizon - Their permit is valid from 4/24-5/7. They will be in the area speaking with residents about infrastructure improvements.

Please note, these are the only permits issued for this coming weekend. Don't hesitate to call us if you're unsure about who is ringing your doorbell.

What a great idea to list organizations that have permits to solicit!!!   snake  snake  snake

Last week I answered the bell for a solicitor for "we're doing some work in the neighborhood".  When I asked where his permit was, he responded 'it must be in the office somewhere.' I curtly told him 'no permit, no talking'.  He started to give me lip and didn't turn to exit.  At that point I asked him if he wanted me to call the PD if he wouldn't leave. He quickly retreated, crossed the street, got into his nice car and drove down the street.  I didn't call the PD, but at least I spared some of my neighbors from being annoyed by him.

I have stopped going to the door for the Jehovah's Witnesses. Right now they are the only ones who are bothering us. And, not too often. I don't know why, but I have really lost my patience with anyone soliciting anything at my door.

This works for JWs : Just say to them "Please take me off your list".  This will keep them away for years, at which time you say it to the next group. A neighbor told me this when I first moved here and I hardly ever have them at my door for years. Now I say it to other solicitors, including phone .... works 'some' of the time ....
