Which also started with a ball in freezing temperatures, right?

I'll take your word. I'm really quite uncultured.

Sure -- despite a Bundchen-like grasp of German pronunciation. I see right through your Mittel-European pretensions.

This story gets stranger and stranger. The Colts' player who intercepted the ball now says he didn't feel anything different about it and did not turn it over to his coach for inspection. All the the media reports said he was the one who started the ball rolling, so to speak, because he noticed it was underinflated when he intercepted it and told his coach about it. In reality, he wanted to keep the ball as a souvenir because he had intercepted Tom Brady. He doesn't know what happened to it after he took it to the sideline.

not a brady or Cheatriots fan, but this whole thing is getting way overblown.

I've been sitting on that joke all week, so well done for finding a way to get it in there.

Perhaps there's more to Newman than meets the eye.

No. There's less.

Also, per NFL protocol, after the balls are inspected by the officials they are to remain in their custody until just before game time. I have read that after inspection they are stamped and then placed in an official NFL bag and each team's balls are then placed on the teams' respective sidelines.

NFL stadiums on game day have more security cameras and staff in action than the White House. Those cameras are on many hours before each game and during the game. It can certainly be seen whether someone had access to those balls and stuck a needle in them to deflate them.

The NFL and its meathead pundits and ex-players are making this more ridiculous and demonstrating how dumb and clueless they are. Now you have Troy Aikman saying the punishment handed out to the Patriots for deflated footballs should be worse than the punishment for "Bountygate."

The Saints were awarding money to players in the hopes they would injure opposing players and knock them out of games, preferably where they would have to leave the field on a stretcher.

Here's a league that hid the effects of concussions from the players for decades; where players get physically destroyed for their lives as a result of legal hits.

Troy Aikman thinks using a slightly deflated football is worse.

I am getting tired of the media pundits saying how Roger Goodell needs to get this one right- how asinine can you be to compare this with the Domestic Violence and Child Abuse scandals that emerged last year! Underinflated footballs should not be mentioned in the same breath with those horrific incidents.

Troy Aikman retired because he took too many blows to the head. So he's excused for not remembering how terrible it is to take too many blows to the head.

It's too bad that Troy didn't have that outrage when Michael Irvin was arrested and plead no contest to cocaine possession in '96.

Anyone see Mark Brunell start to cry when discussing this? He actually started to cry! Better check him for CTE.

I'm just sorry that this issue (minor or not) is distracting people from a far more interesting topic:

The NFL probably enjoys this to some extent, the integrity of the game notwithstanding. The Super Bowl is going to be the most watched television event in history, surpassing all prior Super Bowls, etc.
90% of the country/world is going to tune in to see pretty boy Brady and Darth Vader Bill get their cheating heads handed to them. All of New England will be tuning in to see their heroes prevail through all this adversity and give a big @#$% you to everyone.

Wow! Found this evidence in the street this morning.

Interesting statement from the NFL:

The NFL issued the following statement on Friday afternoon in response to inquiries about “Deflategate”:

“Our office has been conducting an investigation as to whether the footballs used in last Sunday’s AFC Championship Game complied with the specifications that are set forth in the playing rules. The investigation began based on information that suggested that the game balls used by the New England Patriots were not properly inflated to levels required by the playing rules, specifically Playing Rule 2, Section 1, which requires that the ball be inflated to between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch. Prior to the game, the game officials inspect the footballs to be used by each team and confirm that this standard is satisfied, which was done before last Sunday’s game.

“The investigation is being led jointly by NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Pash and Ted Wells of the law firm of Paul Weiss. Mr. Wells and his firm bring additional expertise and a valuable independent perspective. The investigation began promptly on Sunday night. Over the past several days, nearly 40 interviews have been conducted, including of Patriots personnel, game officials, and third parties with relevant information and expertise. We have obtained and are continuing to obtain additional information, including video and other electronic information and physical evidence. We have retained Renaissance Associates, an investigatory firm with sophisticated forensic expertise to assist in reviewing electronic and video information.

“The playing rules are intended to protect the fairness and integrity of our games. We take seriously claims that those rules have been violated and will fully investigate this matter without compromise or delay. The investigation is ongoing, will be thorough and objective, and is being pursued expeditiously. In the coming days, we expect to conduct numerous additional interviews, examine video and other forensic evidence, as well as relevant physical evidence. While the evidence thus far supports the conclusion that footballs that were under-inflated were used by the Patriots in the first half, the footballs were properly inflated for the second half and confirmed at the conclusion of the game to have remained properly inflated. The goals of the investigation will be to determine the explanation for why footballs used in the game were not in compliance with the playing rules and specifically whether any noncompliance was the result of deliberate action. We have not made any judgments on these points and will not do so until we have concluded our investigation and considered all of the relevant evidence.

“Upon being advised of the investigation, the Patriots promptly pledged their full cooperation and have made their personnel and other information available to us upon request. Our investigation will seek information from any and all relevant sources and we expect full cooperation from other clubs as well. As we develop more information and are in a position to reach conclusions, we will share them publicly.”

That doesn't actually say that the referees tested the pressure of the balls with gauges before they approved them. Maybe they just touched them like they were inspecting a mango for ripeness and gave them the eyeball check and said they're OK. It also says the NFL is viewing video evidence. That goes to my point above: if the referees kept custody of the balls after inspection and approval as required, and moved them to the sidelines where they were not made available to the teams until just prior to the start of the game, there must be video of somebody going into the bags, removing 11 or 12 balls, and inserting a deflation needle.

Also, 40 interviews and no Brady or Bellichick?!

Ted Wells, really? I guess Lanny Davis was too busy representing the PA AG.

Well Wells did the Richie Incognito report so he has that NFL connection. Not sure about Lanny's ties to the Shield. By the way, check out Wells' background about who he went to school with and how they both participated in some form of protest. Hint, a Supreme Court justice. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Wells

That was before Clarence was against affirmative action--i.e., after he got his place at the table.

MA high school students video shows balls may have deflated on their own due to weather:

But bettyd, they're from MA. What do you expect? ;-)

Where the saying regarding the Pats now is: "They hate us because they ain't us."

The NFL is much more interested in fining Marshaw Lynch for breathing , than proving that NE cheated or rather Golden Boy deflated some balls. They haven't even talked to Brady yet. I'm surprised that Gisele hasn't chimed in with some Sofia Vergara like quotes.

it had occurred to me that if Brady's preference was to inflate the balls to the exact minimum pressure, that the cold weather could have reduced the pressure below the allowable minimum.

still, it's ridiculous how much noise this is generating

This is inaccurate. 11 of the 12 balls that NE used were significantly under inflated. None of the 12 colts balls were under inflated. Belicheck's and Brady are cheaters.

How is this relevant? Pierce on the Giants was sighted for animal cruelty? It's sadly common with NFLers.

Maybe the Colts overinflated their balls.

maybe Luck likes the football inflated to the maximum.

I think this is the dumbest controversy ever.
