well the prep doesnt seem to be working for me... i drank the first packet as prescribed at 6pm and nothing yet ..........

Excellent.  We were all hoping for a play-by-play.  Are you tweeting this?

Just spit up some coffee at that one.

right? I hope to NOT hear any more live details.

i will spare any colorful details, but worth noting for any of you that may be in this situation some day..

the 'easier' prep, which is called prepopik and uses two powder packets consumed several hours apart had no effect on me, so my dr called in the old school nasty stuff to cvs for me, which I just picked up and drank and am pretty certain will work as it did years ago when I had a colonoscopy. The nasty stuff is called gavilyte-c solution which is polyethylene glycol 3350 active ingredient (sounds like antifreeze)

Why not a bran muffin and a strong Starbucks?

Hope everything comes out alright, seaweed!

Dr. Mogan is ok. Bedside manner though, eh.

No problem with Mogan at all he is actually delightful with LilMiss at our 7 am appointment  I'm sure you'll do well Seaweed  good luck!!

I'm guessing you've never had a colonoscopy?  Because, no, this wouldn't be a good idea.

This past summer I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy from hell.  The procedure was fine, the prep was tolerable.  The billing was a nightmare!  The doctor used an anesthesiologist from out of network, a pathology lab from out of network and one other bill, also out of network, and this was at Summit Medical where I'm covered!  In NY state all patients must be informed of all out of network services PRIOR to delivery.  Make sure you clarify with your doctor first.  Good luck

Perhaps NJ will adopt a law similar to NY

Let your carrier know it is a "hidden provider".

That is the term they use and they are supposed to then send the amount normally contracted for and it is up to the doctor or facility to fight for more.

sorry for your billing issues but surely a "colonoscopy from hell" would be one in which there was a terrible reaction to anesthesia, an intestine were perforated or cancer was discovered. Billing issues are a pain but it could have been a whole lot worse.

Bravo!  That's what I love about Maplewood Online.  You make an effort to provide information that may be helpful to someone and the "word trolls" come out to change the topic, insult your post and feel anonymously superior.  Yes I know that typing post this will create a backlash, go for it. ( this is the restrained and edited version!) BTW  I spend over ten hours dealing with doctors and insurance companies, surely a "hellish" experience.

I am with conandrob240. Imagine if the scope discovered inoperable cancer.

irishclan, you didn't have a colonoscopy from hell. You had a medical billing experience from hell- BIG difference.

Really? I'm in NYC, and I got burned for $1,600. The provider said that insurance approved the procedure (not a colonoscopy), and I took that to mean covered. The provider said they don't normally tell if they're covered unless the patient asks. I didn't know to ask. And you're telling me they were obligated to inform me?

I was informed by my insurance company that a carrier must inform a patient that they are out of network. I am attempting to get a copy of the legislation to forward to our senator and representatives.  I have no desire to ever equate cancer with billing issues. It is the willful disregard of content by the word police that I object to. I was also trying to let people know that they should ask if any of the work proposed will be out of network.  I found that my provider sent the pathology report to Boston!  The snark and criticisms discourages people form participating in a genuine desire to be of assistance to fellow community members. ok, let it rip.....

Ease up. All of us have had insurance horror stories. They are not the same as cancer or death stories.

I heard bad things about the powder. My doc prescribed Surprep and it worked like gang busters.

Has anyone heard anything about this new pillcam thing? Sounds really promising.

Reviving this thread from last year to see if some recommendations are still valid. For various reasons I may not want to see Dr. Mogan anymore. Let's just say it's impossible to reach his office to make an appointment and they give you 2 and half hours of calling time to do so but tell you if you don't reach the office then keep trying rather than press 0 for the service. Well I finally did press 0 for the service and they then sent me back to regular number and advised me to press 1 for regular voice mail, which the office doesn't provide such advice of course.  I did just that and said I won't be calling back to schedule an appointment (which they said one must do rather than leave a message) because they 1) changed their number and the old one just has a busy signal; 2) I refuse to try more than 3 times to reach the office during the call in hours and 3) if they want to keep me as a patient to return my call within 24 hours as a non-emergency call.  He now has 3 partners and his business name changed. Losing the confidence really quickly here.

Even if I get a call back I'd like to explore other territory. @ctrzaska do you still recommend Dr. Frazese (spelling may be off)?

@sac do you still recommend Dr. Barrison?  Anyone else, feel free to chime in. I asked them since I know the two posters in person. Thanks all!

Yes, I have no reason to change my recommendation although I haven't seen him since well before I posted that.

However, recently, I had an urgent GI issue and Dr Barrison didn't have any openings, so I was referred to Frederick Shieh (pronounced 'Shay'), who is at the Livingston SMG location - on Northfield Avenue near the rear entrance to the ShopRite. I was very satisfied with my experience with him and would give him an equally good recommendation.

Dr. Mogan has announced his retirement. He will no longer be doing procedures, work only three days a week and fully retire in November. My whole family will miss him.

I didn't know that. I'm due for a colonoscopy.

That explains a lot librarylady. Thanks for the information. And for what it's worth, I would NOT recommend continuing with this practice until/unless they change their phone call procedure. I have an easier time getting directly to a helpful person at Verizon than I did with them.

Dr. John Franzese in Chatham is still the best.

Where does he do colonoscopies?  I see that he is affiliated with Overlook and Barnabas.

Recent good experience with Dr. Shieh and followup surgery with Kevin Holzman, both via Summit Medical Group. Extremely thorough, and they're both far from retirement age.

I've had both an endoscopy and a colonoscopy with Dr. Roger Klein at Summit Medical Group. Both experiences went fine, and I found Dr. Klein to be both pleasant and helpful.
