...Which, of course, will preclude Markel from ever enjoying 5 Guys.
Or, for that matter, SMASHBURGER, my second stop with Sonnyboy this afternoon. Here's a review I've posted here previously -- of this specific burger place on Bloomfield Ave. in Glen Ridge:
The above review notwithstanding, where I was semi-wowed there once before, this time we were underwhelmed (perhaps just due to the unfair comparison with Elevation Burger)...
Verdict: It's maybe a little better than 5 Guys, but only due to the diversity of choices in buns, toppings, sides, salads, beverages, etc... And, of course, it's the same as 5 Guys on the doneness thing...
Second recommendation for Elevation Burger in Montclair.
I'm not going to go all the way to Montclair just for the burger, but if you are in or near Montclair, Elevation makes an excellent burger and fries (and as my son can attest, a really good, thick chocolate shake). Organic, grass-fed beef. They are way better than the much closer Five Guys.
In Australia, Hungry Jack's burger joints wanna be as common as Burger Kings, and it seems to me that they've even swiped the basic BK logo. Anyhow, the latest Hungry Jack specialty is the "Angry Jack" burger; here's a spoof of the "Angry Jack" commercial...
I think the 3-D version of the Bob's Big Boy logo is a bit much, don't you? I mean, that's really some pompador! Looks kinda greasy, too. It'd go much better with a pizza...
Do you like Guy Fieri, the Food Network guy who shows up at diners & celebrates their offerings? He's featured in a NYT article today ( http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/11/dining/11Fieri.html ), and I do enjoy his antics as both an onlooker and a TV chef. Guy owns several eateries, of course, and, though I've never been to one, I look forward to checking one out next time I'm in California.
To continue in my usual vein, I guess ... I hate Guy Fieri (as a TV personality). He's just annoying, and his only qualification for being a TV host seems to be that he won a contest on TVFN.
Why on earth would anyone garnish a hamburger with a lime?
OK, Mr. Markel has some very defined ideas about burgers. I appreciate that...
Yet, thus far on this thread -- the subject if which is *pictures of burgers*, you understand -- he has submitted (A) a photo of a washing machine (albeit hilarious in its literalitude) and (2) one of a plate of sliced-up foreign-sounding weiners and french fries.
*No* burger pix.
Mr. Markel is very picky about burgers, but posts no burger pix...
Just sayin'.

BTW: Tomorrow's my birthday, but I can get it my way at BK *every* day, or so they say...
It was only a matter of time. My least favorite Food Channel skank has discovered the grossest possible burger (we've discussed it here before, so I won't go into my personal discomfort issues with this food item)...
To celebrate National Burger Month, my favorite burger site ("A Hamburger Today") is teaming up with famed New York City meat purveyor Pat LaFrieda for the second year in a row to give away a case of "AHT blend" burger patties (24 per case) each week for the next four weeks (contests announced each Wednesday). Patties will be shipped fresh anywhere in the U.S., perfect for throwing a giant burger party or for cooking burger-centric meals at home. To enter this week's contest, just tell AHT (in the "comments" section): If you could open a burger joint, what would you name it?
