Booster shots available at Sears

You didn't miss anything.  I got my third dose six days ago, and they asked me point blank if I wanted a booster or a third shot.  Who needs to do their research now?

my Docket app and everything that was said and written at the time indicates that it was the same as the first two doses. I suppose I can't be 100% certain but no  research to date explains what the county was doing prior to this recent FDA authorization for half dose "boosters."  All I know is they were definitely giving Moderna and Pfizer shots in September no questions asked and seemingly without regard to the initial Pfizer-only FDA ruling (except I guess for the immune compromised, which I did not pretend to be).

I got my 1/2 shot booster today myself. Though I think I could have requested a full shot. I think.

This thread pretty well documents the confusion about boosters. Whoever runs the Sears site seems to have been running on their own in terms of protocols. And the CDC and FDA didn't really help matters.

Things should be settled down now though.

Oh my. The third shot is for immuno compromised individuals REGARDLESS OF TYPE OF VACCINE The Pfizer booster is the same strength as their regular shots. The Moderna, which was twice as strong for the first two as Pfizer, is/was recommending half dose for booster. And notice that Moderna even said they did not see any breakthrough SERIOUS illnesses from those who got the first two. Thus their recommendation for half dose for a booster. TIA

Not sure what you're oh mying about.  You're talking about the official line, we're talking about what Essex County has actually been doing.  If the County was complying with the official line, they would not have given me any Moderna shot in September, 1/2 or full, and it seems from above posts that they are actually asking people if they want the full dose vs. the 1/2 dose booster amount.

Nope. But enjoy your feeling of thinking you're right. Oh my and sheesh. Have fun all.

Well given the fact that I was there today and had this exact discussion with them, I am awfully confident that Bub is correct.

Double sheesh with a cherry on top.

Chill! As has been the case from the beginning of Covid, if you ask three people, you'll get three different responses. Even the so-called experts don't agree most of the time.

A little more confusion. Read no time lapse needed between Covid booster and flu shot. Today I learned my doctor recommends 2 weeks in between so while I wait, I'm sure everyone here will come to an agreement on all the other issues. Or not.

When I received my COVID booster on Saturday, I was asked if it had been at least four weeks since my most recent vaccine (of any type).  Maplewood health Department recommends two weeks between vaccines.  NYC Health Department in the Public Service Announcements claims you can receive both the flu shot and the COVID vaccine on the same day.  Confusion indeed!

I had my "regular" flu shot and my third shot of Moderna only two days apart and have lived to tell the tale.

Is Livingston still giving third/booster shots?

I’m having trouble finding their hours online

Scully, I have the strong belief that if you go over there before 5:00 PM that they will happily jab you.

As I mentioned earlier, ask three people, you'll get three different responses. I was told by three "reliable" sources: wait 2 weeks between flu and vaccine shots, wait 4 weeks between shots, and no need to wait at all. Pays your money, and takes your choice. Pick the source you personally trust most, and follow his/her/their advice.

 THANK YOU!!!

I just showed up and was taken immediately, no problem

I called the Essexcovid.org phone line and they said for a booster/third dose (I'm not getting into THAT one), you didn't need an appointment at the Livingston Sears, just to go on over. I will be there later this week. Having a bit of a sinus flare-up now, so want to wait until that's back to normal.

Be aware that a fourth shot may be needed.

I'm not surprised. Look at the flu vaccine which is effective for about 6 months. If the flu was a year long disease we would have needed two shots a year.

Unfortunately COVID is year long.

CDC says some immunocompromised people can get a fourth coronavirus shot

By Lena H. Sun7:57 a.m.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says some people with weakened immune systems who received either Moderna’s or Pfizer-BioNTech’s coronavirus vaccine can get a fourth shot.

Moderately or severely immunocompromised people who have already received a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines may get a fourth shot six months or more after their last dose was administered, according to the CDC.

we will most likely need an annual booster

About the third shot versus booster confusion:  I received my booster at the Sears site on Monday.  We asked what happened with my husband, who was with me, and what it was he actually received last week, also on Monday.  We asked one of the registration people if it wasn't a booster, why was it called a booster on the email confirmation he received.  One of the registration people told us that the third shot with the full dose of Moderna was being called a booster up until the moment the actual booster was authorized by the FDA.  At that point, it reverted to being called the third shot.  The logic of the name change escapes me, but it dispels a bit of the confusion.  I had a similar reaction to the booster -- felt like I had the flu for a couple of days -- that I had to the second shot.  Since my husband has little or no reaction to the vaccine, I'm glad he received the full dose.

Thanks for trying to clarify. That makes sense, I guess.

My spouse and I went to the Sears site in early afternoon today. We walked in, no appointment. Very well organized and no wait at all. However, I asked one of the registration people whether it was always so empty, and she said that all morning it had been "crazy." So, just based on our experience, going around 2:00 may be a much calmer time to go than early in the day.

My wife got her third shot there in the late morning and it was not crazy.   In and out pretty fast.  Maybe it was crazy when they opened.

Now that many, if not most of us in NJ, have gotten two and now three shots and the kids will soon be getting shots, do you think the Covid crisis may be ending soon at least in our area?

I know that those who are not vaccinated are still at a high risk of infection and can still cause breakthrough infections.  But, I am much more relaxed about my personal health in regard to covid and it seems that this is the same for most.   I am still wearing a mask when asked to do so. For example, I wore a mask at the election site this morning, and on the train, and I wear one in the stores and library because they have a sign saying masks are required.   But at a Jets game, very few wore masks.  So, are you feeling any more relaxed at least locally about the covid pandemic?

That's an interesting question Robert. My wife and I (we've both had three shots) still wear masks in any public indoor setting except restaurants. I do feel more relaxed yet according to "WorldOMeters" website it seems that the numbers have not really moved downward since early August. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/new-jersey/

I got my booster shot yesterday at the Livingston Mall Sears site. The entrance to the facility is now facing the Eisenhower Parkway, on the opposite side of the prior entrance near Lord & Taylor. As others have said, there was a huge capacity and very little traffic. The staff and volunteers dwarfed the number of people coming in to get vaccinated/boosted/3rd shotted. It was a fast process. By the way, I could not find my actual card but I had a picture of it after my second round. Regardless, they could look you up in their system and on Docket so don't worry. Go get thyself protected.

It was fun to see some of the folks I'd gotten to know last Spring.

I wore my face covering when I voted this morning.  I was surprised that many of the poll workers at my polling place were not wearing their face covering over their nose and mouth.  (Wearing it under the chin does not protect others.)  We do still have a pandemic and there are still voting age residents who are not vaccinated.  It would seem common courtesy for poll workers to follow basic precautions.

I'm still a little iffy when it comes to eating indoors at restaurants. But having gotten the booster a week ago, I'm starting to feel more comfortable.

I got my booster yesterday, no appointment. Checked with Walgreens' in South Orange and they only had Pfizer so I went to Sears. In and out quickly with such pleasant volunteers.

Same as last time, nothing for 12 hours then a restless overnight and next morning. Got it together by about 3 today.

Here's a question. A friend who had a bout of Covid in the spring claims she now has antibodies so feels she doesn't need the vaccine. Thought that was disproven.

Asking because she and her sister who hasn't had the booster yet were up for a visit. I'm wary.

It appears you have stronger immunity if you have both the immunization and the antibodies from having had Covid. I'm guessing you body likely has 2 different types of attack mechanisms it can use on the virus.
