Best place to get Genmaicha tea

Jasper, I really like the genmaichi you bought, but if you decide to try another count me in too, thanks.

Almost forgot to post back. I went back to the Eden Organic genmaicha, then tried the YMY genmaicha tea again last night, and it was lovely. I don't know what went wrong with that first cup, but the tea seems fine. Eden organic is good, too, though I'd have to do a side-by-side test to see if I thought one was better than the other.

I think I'm going to order another 12 boxes of the genmaicha we got previously. Right now it's telling me $25.75 for 12 so price has slightly gone up, it's about $2.15 per box. I will check tomorrow, who knows, maybe the price will drop. Let me know, @jasper and @mem if you are interested. (Not sure anyone else posted, I will have to go back a page to see.)

@shh, last time the pack of 12 boxes was $24.93. I guess the one advantage of the slight price increase is that you don't have to scrounge for something else to buy to get the free shipping, since it's now over $25 instead of just under.

In any case, I'd be game for another 2-4 boxes, depending on who else goes in. Last time it was you, me, @mim, and @szurka.

Ah! Sorry, @mim, I meant @mem!

I like the Yamamotoyama Genmaicha a lot but love their Oolong even more. If you like the Genmaicha, give their Oolong a try. I buy mine at Kam man.

Thanks, dg64. I don't know if I've had Oolong tea. Can you describe the flavor?

Oh, is that the tea that looks like little rolled up tea leaves? I think I have little vacuum-sealed packets of it that someone once gave me, but the writing is entirely in Chinese, so I was never sure what it was.

The Yamamotoyama Oolong is a black tea with a smoky flavor. Not too dark though, so perfect for the afternoon.

Is Oolong more or less smoky than Lapsang Souchong?

The only Lapsang Souchong I have had (Twinings brand, I think) I did not like at all. The oolong is much rounder in my opinion.

I'll have to try the Oolong, then. We have a couple of brands of Lapsang Souchong, and I like it, but I have to be in the mood, because it's very smoky.

Calling all Genmai Cha tea lovers!

I just ordered this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XUE9HE, but I'm pretty certain I don't need nearly 3 pounds of tea all at once. Let me know if any of you are interested in buying a pack from me for $4; I'd sell up to 4 of them. I'm drinking it now and it's delicious, though you do need a tea strainer since it's loose.

Oh, and @dg64, I've since become an Oolong tea convert as well, and have been enjoying this bagged version, though we had some individually vacuum sealed loose packets from a friend that were wonderful but are all used up and much more expensive.

Nice to know that you are an Oolong convert @jasper grin I'm still using Yamamotoyama that I can find locally. But will have to look out for your brand. Do you find it locally?

My japanese friend supplies me with bagged genmai cha. The script on the box is all japanese, so I have no idea where to get it and rely on her.

I order the Prince of Peace teas (the Oolong and their Jasmine Green) from Vitacost.com, along with enough other things to qualify for free shipping, and their price is among the best.

The Jasmine Green is very pleasant, but I've found none even close to being as floral as this one that someone once had colleagues send over from India and which I cannot seem to locate anywhere except here: http://gormeimarket.com/products/4792175074325 or here: http://www.amazon.in/Mlesna-Flavoured-Green-Jasmine-100g/dp/B0089BX59U

If you ever come across this Mlesna one in your travels, buy a box or two for me and I'll pay you back. When you open it, your whole house smells like a jasmine garden.

I have never seen this brand before. I could try to get a pack of it for you this summer if it is easily available.

I've been out of touch with the friend that had it sent over for me, so I have no idea how commonly available it is, but if you do see it, I'd love it.

And I'll get one for myself too grin

Fancy/pricey, but amazing: http://www.bellocq.com/
