Belgium

You must have been there during the big hot spell. I read that it hit 103 in Paris. Northern Europe is seriously unequipped for heat waves. Forget AC; few small businesses even have a basic fan to get the air moving.

You're right. I found that outside in the shade, hoping for a breeze, was preferable to indoors. A cold beer always helped.

thanks somaper for the report.

So glad to hear from all of you!

Sounds like you're a foodie. Many/most of the restaurants in Bruges are small so you should not expect to wander and pop in somewhere--reserve by phone or on-line. One idea I didn't follow through with but could be fun--there are a few Michelin starred restaurants in Bruges and at least one has on line reservations.
We rented a house--will give info if interested. In prime season, there will be LOTS of tourists. Very picturesque.
Do you know where you are staying in AMS? IMHO just as beautiful as Bruges, in a city version...

Where was the house- in Bruges? In Amsterdam I'm staying at Hotel Estherea.

Antoninakc, we've returned from our Belgium trip (Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Brussels) If someone can teach me how to private message, I won't have to bore the world with my specifics.

Sorry for the delay! But I did come on just to see if you were "back".. Thanks for the insight! I am leaning toward one night in Brussels and the rest in Bruges. Someone mentioned sitting by the canals and never wanting to leave.. that sounds lovely to me.
