Day 75 - No more Trump. Halleluja.

Twitter is abuzz with the possibility of Trump resigning. And Pence pardoning him. Can this happen in regards to New York AG indicting Trump on tax fraud?

Google, Esq., says:

Under the Constitution, only federal criminal convictions, such as those adjudicated in the United States District Courts, may be pardoned by the President. ... However, the President cannot pardon a state criminal offense.Nov 23, 2018

eta: Crossposted with cramer, so probably moot, and just the result of my wishful thinking.

eta: Would income tax infractions be criminal in this sense??  I soooo want him to go down (or at least lose LOTS of money) for tax cheats.

What I'd like is for him to completely disappear from the public view, and then at some point there's a short obit in the Miami Herald referencing a local real estate salesman who achieved some measure of notoriety for his frequent, insane calls to AM radio shows, for having served time for a bizarre scheme involving a trailer park owned by an exiled Russian oligarch that had something to do with pythons with hydroxychloroquine bottles in their bellies, and who at one point had been president of the United States.

That would probably best for the country, but it ain't going to happen because his ego is far too big for that. At a minimum he will want to use / extend his social media megaphone to stay relevant, which means inciting hatred and sowing unrest. But in all reality he probably would want to start a media empire, or partner with some right wing media empire like OAN or something (to the right of Fox News). I think he is pretty much done in real estate, but he is now obsessed with ratings, which to a certain extent is true unfortunately. There are plenty of deplorables out there as we know. It will damage the country even more, and it will also make it harder for the Republican party to rebuild itself.

However, if he goes to jail, this will all stop (at least temporarily). I don't think they allow for Twitter there.

Today, Judge Amy Barrett couldn't figure out if the Prez had the power to delay the election, or whether voter intimidation was illegal.

The kabuki continues....

Trump has more loony lines in one hour then Biden has in a year.

Just look at this as another opportunity for Trump to bury himself.

He's just doing it to brag about ratings.

Of course.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised at NBC, but I am.

"Political analyst Jeff Greenfield summed up the opposition on Twitter, writing, “The decision by NBC News to run a Trump town hall directly opposite ABC’s Biden town hall is indefensible.”

What's on CBS or PBS at that time?

I've been so buried in the hearings this went right by me. I heard that he was doing a Town Hall but didn't realize it was opposite Biden's.  Odd decision as their cable news station, MSNBC doesn't even show Trump's rallies. How did they come to this decision or must I read the madness that is Twitter?

meanwhile, today Trump said that China would pay for the COVID relief bill.

Trump tells his fans that China pays the tariffs levied on goods imported from China.  That's a lie, but his fans don't know that.

Saw my first Trump signs today. 3 actually, at Livingston Circle.

I'm still concerned the GOP is going to steal this.

ml1, i can't "Like" your post, but definitely agree.  i'm living in lots of stress about this till it's actually over (and of course, maybe after, too)

I drove past someone with a Trump car window flag at the corner of Valley and Millburn Avenue this afternoon.

My great neighbor of 35 years has a Trump sign (which was not unexpected). It may be partly to compete with my Biden sign. For 35 years we have and do help each other with a variety of things (including airport rides) and happily talk about everything except politics.

Someone has to stand up to your cabal, Steel.

I do so miss my crown and scepter oh oh

PS: -Good memory Ridski!

Meanwhile, I guess anything could still happen but I continue to be more and more cautiously optimistic about a clear Biden win. In many ways I feel that this election is already over except for the cheering, wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I suspect that with Barrett (unfortunately) seated on the court, that many Republicans officials will call it a day and be happy to see the back of Trump out the door.

We'll see.

He needs to win by a decent margin by election night. In Republican dominated states, like FL, Biden winning by 2 or 3% may be enough after "Republican adjustments."

In PA county election officials asked the Republican legislature to allow counting of mail in ballots before election day. They have not done so. The scenario could be Trump winning on election day considering the mail in's have not been counted. The Republicans could slow down the counting of mail in's using numerous challenges, preventing an accurate mail in vote count by December 14 when the electoral college votes. The legislature could then step in and assign the electoral college votes based on the election day count to meet the requirement that electors be appointed by that date.

2 or 3% margins are way too large to challenge. The margins have to be in the tens of thousands to be worth challenging.

While I like the fact that the thread title changes daily with the calendar, we will not have the election results 18 days from now.

It's a countdown to election day. Nothing more.
