World Red Apple Day 19 June!

I had no idea there was such a glorious day until this year - an agricultural celebration for all the orchardists who grow any kind of red apples! And there are sooooo many different kinds, all so wonderful, with glowing peel and crunchy, juicy fruit, some sweeter and some a little tart.

What’s your favourite kind of red apple?

What’s your favourite way to enjoy it? Do you juice it? Or bake it? Toffee apples? Grate one over cereal, or maybe chunk it into your salads? Mix into pancakes, or stew for sauce or compôte? Maybe you just chomp into one for a snack?

How will you celebrate Red Apple Day?

I’ve also just discovered Red Apple Day supports Bowel Cancer research (well, that figures). I actually learnt about the designated Day from a UN diary so the link was to international food and nutrition, but the cancer link makes sense too.

I wonder if it’s also in NJ?

it’s the polyphenols in the dark red peel that help us combat chronic pain and inflammation - remember, an apple a day...??

Try this yummy pink lady and red cabbage slaw:

cheese

I wonder whether this celebration originated in the Southern Hemisphere. It seems like odd timing from a Northern perspective since our apples ripen in the Fall.

Still, it is designated 'World' Red Apple Day cheese and the cause is worthy - these days, we can get fresh (or preserved or baked, or frozen etc) deliciousness most of the year.

Not to mention the fermented apple products! Yumm-o! smile

Definitely pro world red apple day!

tongue laugh very disappointed - not even my gastroenterologist nor anyone at the GCUHospital was aware of Red Apple Day today, and none of the fresh food shops around town had done anything to co-promote it.

(They're very quick to prescribe horrid elemental diets, or chemotherapy drugs to 'support' your immune system if they think you have IBD/Crohn's, but won't promote the healthy fibre of an apple?)

Had a little grated apple with my chunks of chicken, lettuce, celery, cashews, avo for late brunch. Very yummy and sweet.
