Woodward's Book, "Fear"

The title of this book embodies its irony: not inly is it about how fear amd paranoia drive Trump and his cowardly associates, but it evokes dread and fear in many of us who hear about it. I can't believe how mournfully sad the sickness at the top makes me feel. Your thoughts?

My bottom line remains - the greatest failure is the Congress's inability to step up. I could be convinced that the generals in the administration are keeping us safe from Trump, though I think they too owe us a stand against this monster.

The Generals, Mattis and Kelly, now deny the book.

But its known that Woodward records his interviews. Obviously, Woodward won't interview or use people like you or me. The interviews would have been from Trump admin insiders.

Which brings up the conundrum who lied or is lying now? The generals who need to protect their jobs or those interviewed.

Trump claims the book is fake, filled with lies. If the book is fake, then the liars are the admin insiders who were interviewed, which reflects badly on Trump.

A supposedly stable genius, who has manged to hire a bunch of back stabbing liars representing him and our country before the whole world.

I hope Trump keeps complaining about the book, as recent history shows that the more he complains, the more people buy the book.

I'm not convinced that Trump is driven by fear, though I'd agree many of his associates might be. If there is an upside to all of this, perhaps it is the recent upset elections in Boston and NYC. People seem to be waking up and realizing that their vote matters. If it continues in '18 and '20 hopefully we can "right" the ship a bit, though I am concerned about the longer-term effects of this admin's disregard for climate change and the number of judges (with lifetime apppointments) it is naming.

 Um, yeah!

Randy Rainbow's parodies are one of the things helping me keep whatever semblance of sanity that I still have! They are all so different and all so good!

I've come to understand that Trump's supporters (among the electorate and especially in Congress) are absolutely and fully aware that he is not perfect, that he is untrustworthy, unintelligent and ill-informed. They know this even if they don't acknowledge it.

Constantly pointing out how unhinged he is or how stupid or how crooked or how racist will not do a thing to diminish their support. They feel that he promised three things when he ran for President, to fill the courts with conservatives, to be an outsider and to cut regulations. He is delivering those things.

They know he's an ***, that he's a misogynistic pig who behaves abysmally. They know his foreign policy chops are at best woefully inadequate. They're biting the bullet to take the good with the awful. There is no changing their minds. That should be nobody's strategy. The only effective way to make changes is through the ballot box.

Raging at Trump's base and his supporters in Congress for not speaking out against his foul behavior is a futile waste of time. I'd leave those opportunistic ******** in Congress to sit and watch as the Blue Wave comes roaring through, i.e., the midterms are crucially and critically important. And the ONLY hope for change.

Has Trump called Woodward "low energy" yet? Haven't heard that one in awhile.

The Trump-Woodward conversation about why Trump wasn't interviewed for the book is great.  I especially like Kellyanne Conway saying of Bob Woodward's interview request that "it was rejected".  Who the heck is between Trump and Conway who would reject it?

---------------------------------

WOODWARD: Well, Mr. President, how can I spend all this time talking to people and - like Kellyanne and Raj and Republican senators?

TRUMP: Who were the senators? No, they never called me about it.

WOODWARD: Senator Graham said he had talked to you about talking to me. Now, is that not true?

TRUMP: Senator Graham actually mentioned it quickly in one meeting.

WOODWARD: Yes. Well, see. And then nothing happened.

TRUMP: That is true. That is true. Well, that - no, but that is true. Mentioned it quickly, not like, you know, and I would certainly have thought that maybe you would've called the office. But that's okay. I'll speak to Kellyanne.
I am a little surprised that she wouldn't have told me. In fact, she just walked in. [to Kellyanne] I'm talking to Bob Woodward. He said that he told you.

KELLYANNE CONWAY: Yes.

TRUMP: About speaking to me. But you never told me. Why didn't you tell me

CONWAY: [inaudible].

TRUMP: Nobody told me about it. Well, let me ask her. Why don't you speak to Kellyanne. Ask her. She never told me about it.

[Conway takes the phone.]

WOODWARD: Kellyanne?

CONWAY: Bob, how are you? Hi.

WOODWARD: Hi. Remember two and a half months ago you came over and I laid out, I wanted to talk to the president? And you said you would get back to me?

CONWAY: I do. And I put in the request. But you know, they - it was rejected. I can only take it so far. I guess I can bring it right to the president next time.

WOODWARD: Yeah.

Kelly or Hope Hicks could have rejected the request for an interview. Or Kellyanne was just lying. I'll go with the latter. grin

I think she was telling the truth.  "It was rejected" is the "passive voice" way of being truthful without admitting that Trump said "No" originally, when she mentioned it to him.
