After last week this *should* feel like a walk in the park, but this is a robust storm nonetheless. At least 4-6” seems like a good bet here.

and there seems to be something cooking for Thursday too?

This pattern is sort of stuck right now — very conducive for storms. Tough to nail down specifics yet though. Very reminiscent of Feb/March 2018 where we had several potent storms in a row.

Well, this has been an elusive little storm. After completely disappearing from all the major models it is back with a consistent consensus for 5" - 7" of new snow.

Snow likely to start up Sunday morning around sunrise and continue until the late afternoon, possible heavy at times.

For those of you on twitter, I'd strongly suggest following my friend John who provides frequent, comprehensive updates on every storm: https://twitter.com/nymetrowx/status/1358056626633265155?s=20

We are in upstate NY about 2-3 hour drive back to Maplewood. We were originally planning to leave tomorrow around noon and head back. But with the new storm system we were planning to leave around 9-10am (maybe earlier) but do you suggest we leave tonight or early afternoon tomorrow?

I would leave tonight. I grew up in the Syracuse area and overpreparing for snow is kinda in my DNA.

 Tonight.

I grew up in Michigan and would not hesitate to go out in 5-7" for the least reason ... I remember one time going to work in a storm like we had Monday ... Since living in NJ, however, I have lost absolutely all of my Michigan Macho where snow is concerned ... My new motto is, "If it's snowin', I ain't goin'"

Wrote this in the "old" storm thread, but meant it for here...

I grew up in Buffalo, and realize now that Buffalonians don't just know HOW to drive in snow...They know when NOT to drive in snow. There's a reason for the neighborhood bars and small grocers that are easily walkable from home, and provide both sustenance and companionship. Stay safe, stay home, and help your neighbors.

The heaviest snow is supposed to be tomorrow afternoon.  I would leave tonight if possible.

I suppose living in snowy regions learns ya how to drive in snow but to also recognize that lots of people don't know how/cannot do so.

A lot of "knowing how to drive in the snow" is just having snow tires.

Back in the early 80’s, there was one helluva blizzard, and my car was totally buried, way past the mirrors.  I worked in a bank in downtown Bloomfield, and in spite of the weather, they insisted on opening (morons). So, when a municipal snowplow came by, I hitched a ride, hanging on the outside from a metal rung. They took me most of the way there, about a mile or two. Of course, there were no customers (idiots). And the manager complained because I wasn’t wearing a tie (jackass).

The things ya do in your twenties to pay the rent!

The Ledger quotes a weather expert as saying this new storm tomorrow is going to come “in like a freight train.” That’s not a statement that makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

Just means it’ll be quick. Won’t be anything like the last one.

Heh. Maybe not the best simile, then.

Sunday morning 2/7 update

Winter Storm Warning in effect now until 9pm tonight

Latest model runs trim and inch or two off the snow as the storm moves a bit south and west.

Quick-moving nor'eastern to with snow starting around 7:00 this morning and continuing until 5:00 or 6:00 tonight. Temps should remain low enough today that the precipitation is all snow.

You do realize with that statement you are now required to post a clear and timely color-coded radar map showing the forecast. Actually, let me add that you need to do this for each one of the models. TIA  smile

It sure is pretty so far. I'm going to let myself be deluded by its beauty for a while before it's time to get to work on editing this developing idyllic picture.

Dreaming of a White . . .

Chinese New Year?

The snow is heavy. Hopefully if gets lighter and more fluffy this afternoon when it really gets going.

Any idea of what the final snow total will be and when the storm will taper off?

Me: "Okay you doofus, repeat after me:"

"Let the impeller clear the chute before you back up."

"Let the impeller clear the chute before you back up."

"Let the impeller clear the chute before you back up."

"Let the impeller clear the chute before you back up."

Looks like close to 8 inches at the rate it’s going.

Now, its getting wet and heavy.
