who do you call if there's water pouring out of someone's house...

and they don't seem to be home (it's under renovation). I'm concerned about burst pipes or further disaster...

yes. Fire dept right now.

This cannot be on the level. First among the many things I would not do if I saw water pouring out of someone's house, is to post a question on MOL about what to do!

First among many things things I would not do is chastise someone who is trying to help by pointing out how much more awesome I would be in the situation.

Fire department.  I have had to do this - they come and take care of it. they will shut off water to teh hosue from the exterior.

Fire department...our neighbors did this once, when we had a broken pipe leaking water into our basement, which the sump pump was then pumping out, forming a visible ice slick.

The fire department actually came in via a second floor window, turned off the water from the inside, and called our cell phones (reading off the babysitter information on the fridge).  They also turned off the boiler as a precaution, since they were turning off the water...

It was single digits out, and we were in Florida. Luckily we were able to get someone to come to our house and take precautions so that one of us didn't have to catch the first flight home. Ahhh, the memories.

I msg'd the person I thought was the owner on facebook first, but dunno if they check facebook. can't imagine what nefarious motives I'd have for posting this question.

did you call the fire department?  Is it okay?

if it was actually pouring, I would call the police

Not sure why quoting text isn't working, so I'm editing a second post.
