What to do with old sofa?

We finally got a new sofa, but I'm not sure what to do with our old one. It's not in great shape, primarily because it's been covered in dog hair for years and years. So, I don't know that anyone will want it!! I'm in South Orange so we don't have curb days, but might someone take it if I put it out there?

They might - you never know. You could post on the free stuff thread - https://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/id/49198-The-MOL-Free-to-a-Good-Home-Freecycle-Thread?

True, I guess I could give it a shot!

Don't know about the dog hair, but years ago we donated an old couch to a daycare center. They even came and picked it up, as I recall.

Yeah I just can't get it totally clean at this point. Even with the most thorough vacuuming - which I've tried! I'm sure professional upholstery cleaning would help but I was never interested in that expense.

Call Waste Management(if you use them)and they will take it the last Wednesday of the month.Sorry, just saw you live in SO. Don't know how SO Disposal works

not sure if pm is working but maybe the owners of dog gone farms could use it or maybe puppy love for the dog area ? They picked up a used futon from me a while back -

Awesome idea!!! I will reach out.

Have you considered breaking it down into smaller materials and putting it out in the trash over several weeks? As example: removing the padding and material first, then cutting the frame into 2-3 ft pieces? We did this with ours and while it took a little effort, there was no additional fees. Heavy duty construction plastic bags did the trick. We actually used the wood frame for kindling in our old fireplace.

Post on craigslist Freestuff. Someone will take it if it isn't falling apart.

So far no takers on MOL Freecycle or Facebook Swap/Meet.

Problem with MOL Freecycle is that the readership is quite often not the type of people who are looking for that starter couch. College students will scour CL for free stuff for that first apartment.

Thanks. If it comes down to it, what I may do is tip the delivery guys to put it out on the curb and then post a curb alert.

Looks like I'm back to square one. Gabbie from Doggone Farm was interested (thanks for a great tip!) and I moved it to the garage but she's no longer able to get it. At least it's out of the house...

THNJ-Break it into pieces and take it to the next bulk dropoff day at SO Recycling center...Late August date...furniture that is not in good condition is hard to give away!

Hell, unless furniture is close to perfect, anything used is difficult to give away.

Thanks. I know there was one yesterday too but we don't have a truck and my husband was gone. Can we not take it whole?

Maybe the idea of cutting it up was more about the difficulty of transporting it than whether or not they would take it? Just guessing.

That could be too. After 10 frustrating years of trying to vacuum it I won't mind taking a chainsaw to it cheese

VERY cathartic. We did just that with a settee we had no further use for, which wouldn't fit in our community dumpster, and which had enough damage that no one else would want it. smile

You could save it for when your favorite sports team wins a championship and then burn it in the street.

LOL. Been there, done that...

Okay, not really. but there were bonfires in college. we also had an arsonist in our dorm, so that was fun!
