Thou dost ponder too much, folks. It is what it is. Sloppy headline writing! The headlines in the edition dropped off at my front door yesterday were different.
Over analyze this.
(Interestingly, the Books thread on the Main Forum has had zero comment. Wonder why? )

What Books thread?
ETA: You provide no context to a picture of headlines with the word "their" underlined a lot, what conclusion are we supposed to come to?

What makes it sloppy?

mtierney can't answer. mtierney is currently scouring National Review for something to post that's anti-lib, but not anti-Trump right now. Probably the article about soccer being un-American.

you asked if they were being "PC", not being sloppy.

As ml1 notes, when you ask people a question, you risk encouraging them to ponder.
The homepage may have been a little sloppy with the clustered “they”/“their” and two-sentence headlines, because repetition can irritate a reader. But bear in mind that news websites are meant to be dynamic and constantly changing (and default to the headlines on the separately published articles), so attention to such aesthetic details isn’t always as vigilant as it is when headline writers fill the front page that’s delivered to your door.

I’m guessing this one.

It was enough to lay the foundation for a PC taunt, followed by a “Who, me?” feint.

I didn't bother to open it because the current headline references a book about a local murder that I was already aware of.
mtierney - Concerning no comment on book thread. It's a cold case. I remember it well. Now her sister has been prompted to write a book about it. This has been mentioned on 2 recent town meetings. It's a sad case but don't think there is any new news. Guess they are trying to get more info from police.
True crime is a genre that holds no interest for me. So much of it is simply ghoulish.

Yup. Especially true crime TV. Can't stand it.

surprised that a murder of a -17 year old Maplewood girl in 1966 , still unsolved, generates so little interest on the town site.

It was 60 years ago. Maybe that is why.

I'm waiting for "them" to figure out who killed the Tollund Man. 2,400 years and that case is still cold. (says middle aged man who was a decade away from being born in 1961)
Anyhow, can anyone explain why this is in the Rose Garden Section?
Wait, are you saying that Hunter Biden......
See Main forum, the BOOKS thread….
As a parent who has buried a child, I know such a loss —whether 5 or 60 years ago —factors into the continuation of grief and despair. A violent death at the whim of a madman, however, is beyond the pale. The 17 year old was strangled as she was walking home from her part time job at a coffee shop on Maplewood Avenue!
The killer destroyed the victim’s family as well. Did he continue to live in the community all these decades later? Did he kill again? Does anyone care?

Mr Strupp has revisited this case. He interviewed every person still alive who worked or lived on Maplewood Avenue when this happened. The last place the girl was seen alive at was Roman gourmet I believe.
I’m pretty sure whoever killed that girl is dead by now. There’s been speculation and rumors over the years but nobody was ever arrested. The killer obviously knew the town well, and some people think he was from a prominent family in town.
How come you didn’t even comment when Strupp started a thread about the murder mystery some years ago? And why now brining it up in once beautiful rose garden that melania destroyed?
Do not know of/ or remember a Strupp thread on this site.
I fail to see your point in bringing Mrs Trump and politics into this unsolved murder.

Of course you wouldn’t have seen the thread, because your only interest is to promote your threads. To stick it to the libs. To offend the people who turned maplewood into a liberal enclave and ran you out of town with their “taxing & spending”. I understand.
As for why melania entered this thread, well you can change the name of the thread and eliminate the words “rose garden” , because she turned the roses in the garden into little sachets of potpourri. Maybe your gardening interests are limited to arborvitae and sowing seeds of MAGA nolias. And maybe you forgot that this thread is in the political section of MOL.

It's possible to both care and to have nothing to add.

You keep saying Main Forum like that’s a universal thing. There are 9 categories in the main forum I’m not subscribed to. We have a choice of what we see in the main forum, so maybe not everyone is subscribed to the reading room category and won’t know about this thread.
