Verify your Waste Management Garden Debris Price

I just called Waste Management to schedule our Garden Debris pickup for this season.  When I asked how much the charge would be, the person quoted $72.  That is $2 more than the $70 stated on the WM postcard about the service. She lowered the price after putting me on hold.

I've encountered this pricing inconsistency before when calling to switch from multiple cans to just one.  In three phone conversations with them I got three different quotes on that switch--naturally, none were as low as the first one!

Wow, thats what I pay for garbage pickup twice a week in SO. I don't pay for yard waste anymore because my gardener takes it but when I did I think it was around 30 bucks. Maplewood is expensive.

The postcard says $70 - and it's for the season - not monthly.  May 6 - Oct 7

Oops, I knew that.  It is $70 per season.   The important part of my message is that you need to make sure that WM quotes and bills you the $70 and not a penny more.

As for the service--it is a valuable one for those of us that do our own yard work and don't want the expense of weekly lawn service.

Why not just take it to the pile at the recycling center off Boyden & Newark Way?

It was $65 last year, and Waste Management billed me 3 times for it. After countless hours trying to get it rectified, they cancelled my regular trash pickup and now want $80 for re-instating it. Ugh... that said, it is a worthwhile service, but man are the people at WM hard to deal with.

Which is why I switched to Waste Industries.  Very nice people, my pick-up guy is a doll, and my service has never been lacking.

I suppose I could call WM and ask but I was wondering why they chose to begin service on May 6th when the "free" town garden debris pick up ends around May 20th (my zone).  Would make more sense if WM began later and extended the last pick up to end late Oct.  I always seem to have debris from summer perennials/annuals that are cleaned up later than their last pick up date.  Oh, well.  We signed up online and will make sure to check our invoice!

@lanky - Re: driving to the recycling center, not everyone has large vehicles that can accommodate garden waste and there are senior citizens who, I'm sure, aren't able to do this.

Waste Industries is $65.  I seem to remember years ago a senior discount, but not anymore apparently.

Senior discount for Waste Management is $59.
