Truck stuck under Jefferson ave bridge

One of my employees just witnessed 7:45 AM.

Full contingent of emergency vehicles on site. Avoid the area.

Ugh. Thanks for the heads up!

Anyone know if it is affecting the train service?

I was just thinking the other day how it had been awhile since a truck had gotten stuck under a bridge. I hope the trucking companies get billed for the support services needed and any damage to the bridge!

The conductor on the 8:30 from Maplewood told me the trains are just moving slowly through that area...didn't seem like any significant delay.

Actually the Police and Firemen will just be receiving their regular salaries.........like any day.

Unless some special equipment has to be paid for and brought in.

The bridge is NJT property and I am sure they will go after the trucking company for remedial work needed on the bridge.

Thanks

Pictures, we need pictures.

Purely as a hypothetical - what would happen if the truck damaged the bridge badly and it couldn't be used? Would all train service just stop? I guess so!

I don't see how there would be an alternative, but I think that is a highly unlikely scenario.

It could happen. They'd have to bus people through.

years ago it would happen quite often, they would deflate the truck tires and pull the truck out. Never or rarely did it affect the bridge.

A truck trailer is basically a hollow aluminum box. I can't see it doing anything other than superficial, cosmetic damage to a stone bridge designed to support dozens of multi-ton trains barreling over it ever day.

You'd have to run an M1 tank into one of the supports for it to be a hazard to anything other than local street traffic, if think.

Please don't give people ideas.

The bridge itself isn't stone. The bridge is metal. Getting stuck under the bridge does not involve stone in any way.

I will never forget seeing a huge yacht get stuck by Arturos.

Not the bridge in question, but the one on West Parker is crumbling and the rebar is showing through the cement. That is scary, and if something hit that bridge, even an empty truck trailer, I would really worry about its integrity.

I remember the time a parade float was unable to pass under the West Parker bridge. The float had to be decapitated and the head replaced after the float had passed safely under it.

I used to build parade floats for Macy's. Boy, the stories.... I set Peter Rabbits' head on fire once...

The elementary school of your choice could use your talent. Some of them now enter a float in the annual Memorial Day Parade. Clinton started the tradition followed Tuscan. Boyden joined the parade last year and all of the other schools in the district are welcome to join them this Memorial Day.
