Traffic light timing - Millburn and Valley
Yes something seems screwy. I saw the backup this morning and i figured for sure there was construction or an accident or something. But it's just the light.
South bound traffic on Valley was backed up at 9:30 am yesterday. I thought it was due to tree work but there was no tree work equipment to be seen.
Yup. Midday today, Saturday, it took five minutes to get through that intersection.
They changed the lane patterns when the intersection was redone. There used to be two lanes in both directions on Valley but now there is only one lane for traffic going straight or right.

i would just go to the county website, look up the contact info for the county engineer, and call them.
Mayor Vic DeLuca tells me that the town has already contacted the county. They’re on it.
Update from Vic:
County traffic engineer added 20 seconds to the Valley Street light. We will monitor to make sure that works.
This morning the line was backed up to Broadview heading south on Valley. Took 2-3 minutes to get through the light.

Yeah, it looked like there was hope last night, but this morning was a cluster-f.
The green light for drivers on Valley to cross Millburn Ave is longer, but the problem is that the green light for drivers on Millburn is way too long so traffic on Valley backs up.
Agree w/EB. Motorists going E on Millburn get a head start, to allow unimpeded left turn onto Valley. Light for motorists going W on Millburn always turned green after a little delay, but now the interval from this point till red light has dramatically lengthened. First time I witnessed that I thought there was a malfunction.

The red light if you are traveling along Valley is too long. I agree with EBennett.

Who should be contacted about the horrendous timing of the new traffic lights at Millburn and Valley?
On Friday morning at 7:15 I thought traffic on Valley was backed up due to a school bus. It took at least 3 cycles to get through the intersection at Millburn and Valley.
But on my way home Friday evening, it was clear that the problem was the timing. Traffic on Valley heading towards Maplewood was backed up from Vauxhall to Millburn (although because of that back up, traffic moved smoothly for the rest of my journey along Valley)
Even at 9:30 on a Saturday morning traffic on Valley heading towards Springfield Ave. was backed up from Millburn Ave to Pierson.
Something is very wrong.
