Township Committee Candidate Forum October 15, 2016

Maplewood Senior Share is sponsoring a Township Committee Candidate Forum to be held on October 15, 2016 from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at 304 Elmwood Avenue, Maplewood. Both candidates for the TC have agreed to appear. Program will begin with a brief opening statement by each candidate followed by questions from the floor. Even though this event is sponsored by Senior Share, Maplewood voters of all ages are urged to attend.

For additional information, post your questions here or contact either Irene Dunsavage or Kurt Kiley.

If you missed the HNA sponsored event or if have heard it but have additional questions for either or both candidates, this would be an excellent opportunity to gain first hand information to help you make a well informed vote for TC member on Election Day.

Candidates will not be given questions in advance. What will be asked is entirely up to those voters who attend. This is a great opportunity to get your questions answered on topics which concern you.

A new and exciting aspect of the candidate forum this year is the inclusion of students from Columbia High School. Through the work of Irene Dunsavage, Jon Campbell, a Social Studies teacher from CHS, has been working with 9-10 students to be part of the Candidates forum. They have researched the candidates from prior debates and will be prepared to ask questions.

Kids and candidates....an appropriate and exciting combination.

Final bump. With all the talk elsewhere on this board of the importance of starting at the municipal level and working up to bring about meaningful political change in this country, it may be that some of us are losing sight of the fact that we do have a municipal election coming up in November. Those of you who want to cast an informed vote should give serious consideration to coming to the TC candidate debate scheduled for tomorrow morning from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at 304 Elmwood Avenue, Maplewood. This may be your last opportunity prior to the election to hear both candidate's positions on local issues of importance to you. There will be ample time to ask questions from the floor and to speak with either or both of the candidates during the period for more personal one-on-one discussion which follows the debate. I hope to see many of you there.

Thank you to Senior Share, Frank and Mike, and all of the individuals who made this event possible through planning, publicizing, and attending. It was great to see a full house with extra chairs needed to accommodate the overflow crowd. The questions asked were of prime importance and very much to the point. Hopefully, everyone in attendance left with a clearer picture of where each of the candidates stood on issues and traits of importance to the voter. May we all cast an informed ballot on Election Day.
