Weekend Update updated

Sunday July 2

Air quality moderate. The warm front moving in this afternoon should clear the last of the lingering smoke out of our area by tonight.

Thunderstorms likely this afternoon through tonight. Heavy rain and gusting winds are possible within storms.

July 4th

Not as warm today but still humid with thunderstorms likely this afternoon. While storms not expected to be severe, where they do occur they could be slow moving and as a result could produce heavy rain.

Air quality today is good and should remain so throughout the day.

Coney Island got .85" of rain in an hour (according to NOAA). Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest got canceled.

Thundering here in Maplewood.

WHAT’S THAT I CAN’T HEAR YOU

Thurs July 6th

First pass weekend forecast.

Weather this weekend should be summery, with temps in the mid to high 80s, humid, and a chance of afternoon showers both days. A general instability and saturated air will be competing with a shore breeze that could keep the worst weather west of our immediate area. Showers and thunderstorms more likely on Sunday.

Saturday probably might be the best day for Woodstock. Even though some rain might be fun and cool things down a bit.

In the past, Maplewoodstock has moved to MMS when the weather got really bad.  Any chance of that happening this year?

This never happened for Maplewoodstock.  It happened a few times for other concerts in the park.

We'll just take a break if it rains and will follow the schedule accordingly when it's clear.

Fri July 7th. Weekend update update

Today, warm an a bit muggy.

Saturday, warm and muggy. High mid 80s but will feel like 90⁰. Chance of showers in the afternoon.

Sunday, cooler, still humid. High in the low 80s. Showers and thunderstorms likely. Heavy rain possible. Still some disagreement among the models in the placement of the heaviest rain that should resolve somewhat in 24 hours.

In other news…

I could have given this forecast months ago seeing as it's Maplewoodstock. Except for the rain part.

how did that work out? Might they try that this weekend?

Didn't happen.  Read Jamie's 10:12a.m. post.

If you read further you would have seen that Jamie, who has been part of Maplewoodstock from the beginning, corrected me by saying this was not the case.  As he stated above, the present policy is to take a break in the event and continue when the storm lets up with which ever act is scheduled to go on at that time.

Did we really need TWO posts correcting CharlesG? Unless Joan didn't see jimmurphy's post an hour before hers.

On a more important note, sending good weather god vibes to this amazing event!

Saturday, July 8

Today. Hazy, hot, and humid today. Air quality Moderate due mostly to ozone and local source particulates. High in the upper 80s, chance of showers this afternoon.

Sunday, not as hot. Air quality should be Good. Showers likely in the afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms possible. Chance of heavy rain in thunderstorms.

Wondering what amount and duration of rain, short of thunderstorms, will led to postponement or delay.

See post on Maplewoodstock thread about weather cancellations.

I hope that the Billy Idol performance doesn't get canceled!

Don't want to be a downer but I'm on the fence about this given the mugginess and temperature, although the rain forecast seems to have gotten a little better recently.

Just one very brief very light shower thus far today.  It is hot and muggy in the park.

Damn! I thought the concert was next week.  I guess I’ll have to wait until next year to see see it again again.

It’s a two day event.  Starts again today at noon.

the forecast looks terrible. Don’t like the idea of being outside during thunderstorms.

Sunday July 9th

Forecast on track this morning.

Cooler today with highs in the low 80s. Humid.

A low-level frontal boundary still lingers over the area today and tonight. With a lot of water in the atmosphere, rain is likely this afternoon and tonight. Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and tonight as well. Rain could be heavy at times, and there is a slight chance of small stream and field flooding, although the Rahway River should be OK (yes, that is actually a river that runs through Memorial Park).

Rain probabilities are at 70% this afternoon, rising to 90% this evening.

It’s best that you stay out of the rain.

Google some of today's bands. You might see someone on youtube that inspires you enough to brave the elements.

I caught some of Al Gold yesterday and it was worth it. And I'm skittish about the heat. Also the best way to see a big gathering of your neighbors. Go for it!
