Things I would have done differently if I’d realized the lockdown would be this long

The ophthalmologist in Chester that I used to go to also sold eyeglasses.  That might qualify as a doctor's visit which could be allowable under the new world order.

I wouldn't have gotten so used to wiping my butt.

I heard someone explain that the reason for the TP shortage is that with so many people at home instead of the office, people are simply using more TP at home than they used to. So the commercial TP pipeline has plenty of stock, but the consumer supply, not so much.

Kinda makes sense.

I said that on a different thread, and since then read it somewhere as well (WaPo? NYT?). I think there are two main things going on:

1) People are home all day instead of in the office/work/school

2) Everybody wants one extra pack of whatever size they normally have around. So if you normally have a pack of 6 rolls, you want 12. (or something like that depending on how nervous the person is - just somewhat more than your usual backup supply).

There is also 3) some people have lost their reason and are seriously over-buying, but I doubt it's really that many people.

All of our supply chains are based on just-in-time ordering and not keeping excess inventory. Works most of the time, just not now.

Very interesting article on the TP supply chain.

I’m wishing I could reschedule my depression, so low motivation wouldn’t have prevented me from checking what’s in my Passover boxes. Shoulda planned earlier. Not as many or varied disposable bowls (no soup bowls), no plastic knives or teaspoons, no tumblers or hot drink cups. Sigh.

Loads of foil, plastic wrap, baking parchment, foil baking trays and dishes. Yay! Loads of wiping cloths - yay! But no napkins. Can’t find my coffee pot, my kettle, my chopping boards. It’s the last afternoon, every 30 mins someone rings...  I’ll write lists for next year!

Well, now it’s after dinner/almost-Seder. Just the two of us so we kept it light. I managed to get get soup done, the eggs, the Sacrificed bone, horseradish, stewed fruit, a salad. Meat was the chicken pieces from the soup; ‘cake’ was chocolatey matzah. We sang, we said the blessings; we’ll do better tomorrow.

We are receiving dispensation this year.  There are approved substitutions for everything on the traditional Seder plate.  My Seder plate will be comprised of romaine, celery, hard boiled egg, fruit and nuts, and a carrot.  I may combine it all together in a salad as my Passover dinner.  Those who could not go to the store to get matzoh have been told it is OK to eat leavened bread this year.  The motto here is health first.

I made my own matzo yesterday.  It truly was the Bread of Affliction.  Two bites? Dayenu!

At the temple zoom Seder this evening, those of us without matzoh were invited to substitute an English muffin or a bagel.  Even matzoh isn't required this year.

I can't bring myself to knowingly eat bread during Passover.  If only I could be so disciplined the rest of the year.

Me neither.  I did substitute a carrot for a shank bone this year and even that felt strange.

"Under certain condition?" I wonder what that means.

I looked at the site for Lenscrafters, where I've gotten my last few pairs of glasses and they definitely are not doing in-person eye exams. That's very close contact. Much less than 6' apart. They say they're open for "online shopping" which I guess means you can order stuff online.

But I will check Lenscrafters again. And Visionworks. Perhaps if optician and customer are  both masked and gloved it could work. Governor Cuomo wouldn't like it, though.

I checked the website and it's only for essential vision care. NOT routine exams. oh, well, I'll have to squint through 'til things loosen up,

make your own chicken soup-its easy.  you can get whole chickens from N&K prime market ( they deliver)
