The Seth B, Hijab case ---

Anyone know what the court status of that is?

I was under the impression that she did NOT push up a hijab but rather the hoodie on her jacket…

No???

I think we are far beyond debating the facts of the incident. It seems that people have made up their minds one way or another, based on whatever information has come their way.

I don’t know what the outcome of the two lawsuits will be. Some people might be convinced by the evidence and statements presented in the course of the suits. Ms Herman may recover some financial damages based on the outcome, but her professional reputation and name have suffered irreparable damage, it seems to me.

Makes you wonder what could have happened if everybody had led with de-escalation and mediation before going nuclear.

I don't recall Ms. Herman "going nuclear." Seems like the fallout was thrust upon her.

There are a couple of websites that carry court case information. One is called Justia I think. They post whenever there’s a motion or order or any kind of legal maneuver. Not exactly friendly to the layperson.

There’s another website called PACER.  You have to set up an account for that one.

So the info is out there but not readily available to the casual observer.

Yes, I should have been clearer that the person(s) who put this on the Internet were the ones who went nuclear.

This story infuriates me so much. This poor teacher has been so victimized. And for what, exactly?

just shameful

For a $295,000 settlement from the school district, according to WaPo

In the Wyatts’ case against Herman and the district, the parties reached a settlement of $295,000, and after some drama and demands for more, the Wyatts said this week that they will accept it.

The mother posted on Facebook that she was looking forward to a big payday, and she got it.

kthrny, when was that published?  Mainly I’m curious when “this week” was. Was the settlement just reached?

that wapo article has details I hadn't seen before. Makes the Wyatt's come off even worse. can't believe that they got a settlement.

Here's a gift link if you don't have a sub.

Thank you! So the settlement was reached over a year ago. I had to reread what you posted.

So what remains are Ms. Herman‘s lawsuits against the district and against the CAIC and Ibtihaj Muhammad.

Didn't Mrs. Herman sue the parent, also? Was the settlement to benefit the "harm" to the child? If so, was the money placed in trust for the child or did Mom get a new car, trip to ... and whatever else?

Of course, we don't know the answer to that.

If Mrs. Wyatt was sued and it is successful, there goes the $250k.

Not according to reports, like the Washington Post article that kthnry posted. She sued the district, and she sued Ibtihaj Muhammad.
