The ignorance of Desantis continues unabated.

France sacrificed more than any other nation in WW I.  Imagine a memorial at West Point that simply reads:  The Class of 1914.

France fought well-enough in WW II but lacked strategic depth.

Ron DeSantis isn't ignorant.

He knows that the GOP voters that he wants in the presidential primary are that ignorant.

It's still a truism: The politicians who most insult GOP voters are the Republican politicians.

It reminds me of that joke about the convicts, the masochist and the cat.

"Meow" ought to become the new motto for blue collar MAGAs.

Thank you.

I was going to ask about the rumbling ‘roasting’ of France… I understand why the Brits do it, but I thought the French and USA were such staunch allies and no-one could trash talk either without getting into trouble. (Well, look at our PM’s recent incident)  This is worse than embarrassing for him but of course, there’ll be a way to spin it. Sigh.

the right in the U.S. has a weird hatred for the French. Back during the Iraq War, they insisted on calling french fries Freedom Fries.

They're strange.

They hate a country where regular people make themselves heard by their government. And the government in turn actually provides the people with the basics to stay healthy.

There is this odd belief that the French rolled over dead when the Germans invaded in 1940 when in fact the problem was not one of courage, but tactics.  Then France, not unreasonably at the time, concluded a peace deal with the Germans.  That's often how it works.  You get stomped with no prospect of relief, so you settle.  The thing is, in the U.S. you have to go back to 1865 to find a time when large armies were fighting on our soil.

And, of course, we should have listened when the French said it was a bad idea to invade Iraq.

And with these beliefs/attitudes, people wonder ‘why the US has to be the world’s policeman’    oh oh
