Monday August 4th

Mostly lovely start to the week

Today, hazy sun as Canadian wildfire smoke continues to drift into our area. High 90⁰, but low humidity. Expect air quality alerts

Tuesday, partly cloudy, high upper 80⁰s

Wed, mostly cloudy, high mid 80⁰s

Second half of the week looks mostly sunny with highs in the mid 80⁰s

Lows throughout in the 60⁰s

Max, may I say how much your expertise means to local communities?  It’s just wonderful that you put the time and effort in to post here, preparing families for all kinds of weather conditions.  Thank you for being such a good neighbour 😎 🤓 😎

The air quality has been horrible. I have found that Accuweather Air Quality section is the most readable here is the link.
https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/maplewood-township/07040/air-quality-index/339500  I and my husband have been affected (we are both seniors) and are staying inside for the most part. I don't see it letting it up anytime soon. Your thoughts Max? Love the low humidity but that is all I love about these last 2 days or so.

Another hazy day today but the smoke should be less near the ground, more up in the atmosphere today.  Some clearing beginning Thursday as easterly sea breezes take hold. Ozone remains a concern throughout, however

Actually the current air quality is currently considered Unhealthy. That is defined:
"Health effects can be immediately felt by sensitive groups. Healthy individuals may experience difficulty breathing and throat irritation with prolonged exposure. Limit outdoor activity."
The PM2.3 (Fine Particulate Matter) is at 120/Unhealthy and the PM10 (Particulate Matter) is at 75/Poor. Ozone is just fine and Nitrogen Dioxide is considered Fair.

Unfortunately I am not seeing much improvement through Saturday. This is the link I am using but I found the gov one was similar just clunkier to use:

Yes, the sea breeze is not being as effective as I had thought it would.

Not so sure that accuweather AQI is accurate (irony right?).  I am seeing very different numbers from weather.com which gets its info from air now (a gov agency but very difficult to parse out all the pollutants).

Friday August 8th

Another nice weekend ahead

Clear today as the sea breeze should push the last of the smoke out of the area. High low 80s, overnight low low 60s

Saturday much the same, clear, low to mid 80s.

Sunday a bit warmer, high in the upper 80s, low upper 60s but low humidity through this period keeps the heat index under control

Monday and Tuesday a bit warmer, could see low 90s, but still clear and dry

Monday Aug 11th

Sunny and warmer start to the week

Today, mostly sunny, warm, high in the upper 80⁰s to near 90⁰, dry air keeps heat index near same, overnight low upper 60⁰s

Tuesday similar, perhaps a bit warmer but still dry

Humidity returns Wednesday as well as a chance of showers and perhaps a thunderstorm although severe weather is not expected at this time

Thursday starts out with a slight chance showers then clearing, leading into what looks from here to be a fairly nice weekend

Wednesday Aug 13

Hot weather continues

Today, becoming cloudy with a chance of showers or possibly a thunderstorm later this afternoon or evening. While not likely, there is the possibility that, should a thunderstorm develop, there could be a brief period of heavy rain. High near 90⁰, overnight showers possible low in the lower 70⁰s

Thursday could start out with a shower then overcast and warm, high near 90⁰

Friday through Monday, warm, highs in the upper 80⁰s, overnight lows around 70⁰, a bit more humid but not oppressive

Regarding Tropical Storm Erin, current forecast tracks mostly have it passing us out to sea sometime around Thursday or Friday of next week. As you can imagine forecasting that far in the future has a pretty significant margin of error but, at this time, Erin does not appear to be a threat to the US East Coast

Thursday August 14th forecast update

Looks like we have a 50/50 chance of another thunderstorm this afternoon. Chance of showers all day, but more likely in the afternoon. Any thunderstorm is less likely to be severe than yesterday

Otherwise forecast on track to be hot and humid through the weekend, highs upper 80⁰s except Saturday mid 80⁰s then a bit cooler next week. Erin remains out to sea next Wed or Thurs

Friday August 15th

Warm dry weekend ahead

Today, high upper 80⁰s with a touch more humidity and some clouds

Tomorrow, mid 80⁰s and a bit more humid

Sunday warmer, high near 90⁰, cloudy afternoon with the chance of a shower

Next week starts off a bit cooler with some clouds, highs in the upper 70⁰s Mon through Wednesday

Tropical Storm Erin should become a hurricane today and still appears to be passing well offshore Wed or Thursday. While not directly impacting us, Erin is likely to be be a major hurricane and could cause significant surf and rip current effects. Pay attention to beach reports midweek

Monday Aug 18th

Canadian high pressure brings cooler weather and helps keep Erin away this week

Today, cloudy, high mid 70⁰s, a bit breezy and a bit humid. Low tonight lower 60⁰s

Tuesday partly cloudy, high mid 70⁰s and a bit less humid, low mid 60⁰s

Wed chance of a shower, high upper 70⁰s low mid 60⁰s

Thursday warmer but not bad, some clouds and the chance of a shower, high near 80⁰, overnight low mid 60⁰s, Friday much the same

Weekend could see some showers

Erin continues to show an offshore track that is likely to affect the beaches Wed and Thursday with rough waves and rip currents but little local wind or rain

I was in Long Branch yesterday and saw some dark clouds and drove through some drizzle coming north around 7pm, but it sounds like we got a pretty heavy storm here. Was it bad?

It was brief but strong. Very heavy rain, gusty winds, and a significant amount of lightning in the local area.

Thanks! I saw a thread on Reddit about Rt 22 flooding again and assumed the worst.

I considered adding thunder but thought saying "lightning and thunder" could be redundant.

Tuesday Aug 19th update

Wed now showers likely, may include a thunderstorm, total rain ½ to 1 inch possible

Erin has ticked west a bit, still offshore but shore impacts, waves and rip currents, now more likely and more severe, and we are likely to have a breezy day Thursday with gusts in the 25mph range, and Maybe a shower or two

Today has been the best weather day ever.

Wed Aug 20th

Rainy and breezy likely today, then clearing and pleasant

Today, a frontal system approaches from the west, bringing likely showers and breezy conditions, especially this afternoon and overnight. Most likely about ½ inch rain total, but a thunderstorm is a slight possibility and could drop a bit more. Interaction between this front and the outer edges of Erin are unlikely to affect the MAPSO area. High in the lower 70⁰s

Today and tomorrow Erin will be affecting the shore with life threatening surf and tides as it passes offshore.

Tomorrow cloudy, high lower 70⁰s, chance of showers in the morning. Continued breezy.

Friday clearing, a bit warmer with highs around 80⁰, dry and pleasant. Saturday much the same, less wind though. There may be some residual effects from Erin down the shore so check before heading out

Sunday a bit more humid, chance of showers

Nantucket beach report!  20 - 25 foot waves!   The surfing is wild.  No, not me!

Friday Aug 22

Mostly a nice weekend

Today and Saturday, sunny and dry, high low 80⁰s, cool overnight, low in the 60⁰s

Sunday starts out clear but then a bit of a front moves across the region bring clouds and maybe a shower in the afternoon and overnight, high low 80⁰s

Monday showers likely, high low 80⁰s

Beaches likely to remain closed today and possibly Saturday as Erin pulls away

Mon, August 25th

Simply lovely

We are looking at just lovely weather for the whole week. After a very slight shower risk clears this morning, clear to partly cloudy for the week, highs in the mid to upper 70⁰s, lows in the upper 50⁰s to low 60⁰s for sleeping all week long, and by Tuesday the rip tide risk falls to moderate and the beaches should fully reopen for swimming (of course always check local conditions)

Wed August 27th

Mild weather continues through the weekend with a slight chance of a shower Friday afternoon the only rain. Temps should be between highs in the upper 70⁰s and lows in the mid to upper 50⁰s throughout

Fri August 29th

Dry weather with mid-September temperatures this weekend

Today mostly sunny with a slight chance of a shower this afternoon and evening, high upper 70⁰s low mid 50⁰s

Sat, Sunday, and Monday sunny, high upper 70⁰s low upper 50⁰s

Fair weather continues into next week much the same
