Sustainable Essex Alliance Energy Program

So what happened at last night's sales extravaganza?

Available on the town's you tube channel.  Meeting took about an hour.

As for the opt out:  It's a behavioral economics thing.  Requires more work and thought, but still allows choice.

I think they figured that some savings and more renewable energy were good things, so the opt out nudges people to go with it--can't hurt, will help (especially the social good of renewable)--and tends to make the pool larger.

I don't mind it at all for "good" things.  More problematic for things that are not benign or favorable to me or social goods.

I opted out of the whole climate change hoax.  I figure other people can worry about it if it is even real.

I did the same thing with Snapchat.

This program is a good thing.  I see no need for people to opt out.

If it’s a “good” thing then they will earn opt-ins, rather than having our plos dictate their values down our throat.

Nothing will change at your home except your bill will be a little less.  How is this dictating values?  We are sourcing an improved product, IMHO, at a lower price.

Do we need to opt-out if we're not interested?  If so, how?  TIA

You should have received a letter explaining the program which included an opt out card.  Mail in the opt out card and you will be removed from the participant pool.  If you did not receive the letter, you were either (a) not sent a letter (persons with third party supplier contracts currently in effect were automatically opted out); or (b) the letter either got lost in the mail or was recycled without being opened.  In the latter case, call or visit town hall for information on how to opt out.  There is a very short window for opting out so be sure to follow up ASAP.

I’d follow up to the vendor itself to confirm via email.  If we were opted in to this without our consent, wouldn’t be surprised if our opt out notice magically arrives late or becomes “lost”.

In the program summary on the back of the first page, it says "you may still leave [the program] at any time".

Dave:  We were among the last to be restored after Sandy.  The unluckiest among us were without power for close to two weeks!  This was because PSE&G focused on the areas with the densest population first; not because we had residents using third party energy suppliers.  As stated above, PSE&G provides energy through its infrastructure.  It does not manufacture energy.  It purchases it through a network of providers.

We were out for 13 long days after Sandy too.  But it wasn’t because of a focus on denser areas.  It was because we were a single house outage with a problem that needed a pole climber to reconnect.  Someone from PSEG was at our property almost every day after the first two - I always ran out to talk to them.  Some were crews with the wrong talents, some were administrators checking to see if we still had a problem.  To me, it was clear that they had major information systems issues and were having trouble tracking what was needed.

I see nothing in my experience to make me avoid a slightly cheaper, somewhat greener switch.

I guess it's all a big conspiracy designed to save you some money.  How dare they!!!

Good luck spending your extra 8 bucks a month.

If you are not already in a contract with another third party energy provider or have solar energy or similar, it is a pretty good deal.  Cleaner energy + lower cost.  That said, if you sent in the opt out card in a timely fashion, you should not have been enrolled in the program.

Why are you opting out of something that's cheaper and better for the environment?

Reading through this thread I am really struck by how little people trust PSEG.

Why are you evading my question like a sleezy politician?t

It’s cheaper and better for the environment.

ETA: Also, it raised my chances of getting an accurate letter from PSE&G.

justhow much direct personal experience do you have with residential prrograms like this?

I’m planning on using my theoretical 8 bucks a month in savings to start a vacation fund.

You were away for three weeks!  Did you reach the end of a "time out" or something?

you keep a spreadsheet on this stuff?  creepy, bro.

No, bro.  it just seemed less annoying around here the last few weeks, so I checked.

That's a picture of what MOL shows of anybody's posts.
