In my frazzled brain, I sometimes fantasize that NJ is a lot like California. Nice beaches, and a wide variety of terrain. We even have periodic forest fires in the pinelands.
But to answer your question, I am glad that California pushed the US to have more fuel-efficient less polluting cars. LA was one of the worse atmosphere-polluted places in the world. The whole country has benefited from this and this includes the auto industry that was forced,( by consumers and the car market, and the government,) to make cars better. So, the same may happen with trucks. Sometimes industry (and aren't we all like this to a degree), will make improvements only when we are finally forced to do it. I expect that the genius engineers will come up with really good stuff.
