Bomb Iran?

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/04/tom-cotton-iran-targeted-attack-116768.html

"the president is trying to make you think it would be 150,000 heavy mechanized troops on the ground in the Middle East, as we saw in Iraq"

I hope not. The 150k troops in Iraq was the problem. We should have had 3 times as many. For Iran, we would need at least 5 to 6 times as many, and this idiot thinks we could win anything there with a few surgical strikes?

We may as well attack them with dolphins and Lindsey Buckingham solo albums.

*throws hands in air*

Here's an easy question, why take any options off the table?

yes, let's leave the insane options on the table too.

Thanks, but that's not an answer to the question.

Obama adviser: Military option against Iran still on the table if deal falls through

'A US military option with regard to Iran remains on the table should Tehran violate the terms of a framework agreement to curb its nuclear program, according to US Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes.

'Obama: ‘All Options Are On The Table’ With Iran

He said it 2 years ago, he said it two days ago. Are you saying our President is insane?

it's an insane option.

So Obama is insane?

nope, not gonna engage.

A wise move. You can use the time to take your foot out of your mouth.

Leave it on the table, but remember that there is no good outcome from it.

Is the thought of a war with Iran a thought you enjoy? I get the distinct feeling it is. How sad.

" I get the distinct feeling it is. How sad. "

Yes, if that's the way you think about me Tom, (that war is what I enjoy) then I'm afraid what's sad is you. Truthfully Tom, be it with Iran, or anyone, I can't think of anyone I know, or know of, who "Enjoys the idea of going to war."

This is one of those cases where I'm glad to be wrong. I asked because you wanted to stress it as an option. It's not my style to do that.

It is obvious that all options are always "on the table" or under the table or whatever, but talking about it is the problem.

So we're just going to write off this Lindsey Buckingham idea?!?!?!

Of course this freshman Senator's real interest is just keeping his name in the News and his face on TV.

ALL options are on the table!

Politicians seem to think there is a thing called a surgical strike. Somehow we can wipe out their nuclear facilities and they will say "oops. Our bad."

I think the Iranians would have nothing to lose at that point and create a much larger conflict that would completely engulf the entire Middle East. Look at the maps below. Egypt and Saudi Arabia are engaged in the Yemen. Iraq and Syria are already a shambles and ethnic/religious rivalries abound with the Shia-Sunni split the most obvious. And, of course, the Israeli-Palestinian never-ending conflict.

The next chart shows population growth for Iran, a country of almost 80 million. (Art and others should check that number -- almost 80 million!) Its population growth is starting to look like that of more advanced countries as birth rates have fallen. Not always, but a strong hint at the maturation of a country to a more middle class outlook is the drop in birth rates. Population growth rates now hover around 1.25% down from over 3% some 20+ years ago.

It appears that the hardliners in Iran have the same issues as the US Republicans. If the hardliners veto the deal then they face serious unrest which could threaten their regime. If we attack at this juncture then we shift the population back into their camp. Their hardliners need to be isolated and an attack will do the opposite.

another problem is that we are either a) talking about an option that we really aren't prepared to actually implement. Iran is twice the size of Iraq, where military intervention was a failure.

Or b) we are prepared to act on this option, but we think that this time around, it won't be a disaster.

I believe that would violate the Geneva Convention.

“It would be something more along the lines of what President Clinton did in December 1998 during Operation Desert Fox,” Cotton said. “Several days’ air and naval bombing against Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction facilities for exactly the same kind of behavior. For interfering with weapons inspectors and for disobeying Security Council resolutions.”
Had Cotton been around back then, he'd have been accusing Clinton of wagging the dog. Now he's praising his actions.

Cotton, Cheney, McCain and other assorted neocons are the same when it comes to war. It's going to be a walk in the park. We'll just use our strength and technology and it will be over before you know it. No fuss, no mess, no repercussions, no civilians will be hurt or killed. After the bombs are dropped and the destruction is caused, what could possibly go wrong.

Fu fu fu fu fu fu fu fu funky.
