Sub Factory

I'm obsessed with this place. Whenever I'm involved in any kind of physically-taxing work, like home improvement or landscaping or building, I want a Sub Factory roast beef sub. My teeth ache for it. But when in seven hells is it open??? They have the most random hours and sometimes they are closed for no apparent reason! Like today, at 12:30pm on a Saturday, for the love of all that is holy.

SUB FACTORY, IF YOU ARE READING THIS, PLEASE STOP MESSING WITH ME AND MAKE ME A SANDWICH!

Honestly never herd of this place. Ill go check it out.

Springfield Ave, across and a little bit down from Joe's Pizzeria. You guys. How is it that nobody knows about this place?! It is THE BIZNESS.

I eat hoagies but on your excellent recommendation and the fact that they are so good they don't need to keep regular hours the icing on the cake would be if they are cash only.

I'm not intrigued by the roast beef ... what should I get?

They also have a roasted turkey situation. It's off the chain. A couple times I've gone in and they've run out of roast beef (they do a lot of catering) so I went with the turkey instead. I don't know if they're cash only, but I've only ever paid cash. The proprietors are straight out of a Bon Jovi song. In fact, I'm pretty sure their names are Tommy and Gina.

Anyway... if anyone ever solves the mystery of why they are randomly open, please enlighten me.

Alternatively, if anyone wants to recommend a Plan B sub joint, I'm open to suggestions.

This thread, and your enthusiasm, is making me so happy.

I get my Sloppy Joes and Bagels at Scott's Deli at Boyden and Elmwood. I've never done a hoagie there but I be the does a heck of a good one if he has the right rolls.

He is not open on Sunday though.

I loved the expression "off the chain."

Do they use leaf lettuce? I purchased a sub at another place that I will not name and they put a leaf of lettuce on my Italian sub. I'm guessing they were pinko commies because everyone knows you put SHREDDED lettuce on a sub. And the leaf of lettuce kept the oil and vinegar from reaching the bread which is one of the pleasures of eating a sub. If this places is any good and knows how to make a sub I'd love to give them a try,

What you had there then was a sandwich, not a 'sub'...

Pinko commies...???(!)

Yep. Real Americans use shredded lettuce.

That is heresy. I'm offended.

Tommy and Gina would NEVER put leaf lettuce on a sub. In fact I'm pretty sure that if you asked them to put leaf lettuce on your sub, they would kick you out of their establishment and rat you out to the Feds for being a communist.

Agreed. If you need to be fancy about it- "julienne" the lettuce. But never a leaf...

Have to admit I've never heard of this sub factory joint, but will give it a try based on this thread

God I want a sub so bad right now...

True story, there is a hot dog place out in western NJ that has been around since WWII. They REFUSE to offer sauerkraut and are proud of it. Seriously guys, the war ended nearly 70 years ago. I think it is time to let the grudge go.

Why are they selling Frankfurters?

It's a HOT DOG place, right?

I LOVE going there just to ask for sauerkraut!!!

I remember being told years ago that 'we've never served sauerkraut and never will...'

Weird

The Quick and Out where Quick Check used to be makes pretty good subs, and they use good meat

As a subophile, I recommend Oscar's Sandwich Barn in Millburn. The "Corfu" is my favorite sub-shop Italian sub in the area--tried them all. Good bread, ample amount of meat and good fixins ratio.

I stopped by Scott's last week for a Sloppy Joe and he was closed. Sigh...

One of the best sub shops in these parts, which is why the Munchmobile paid a visit. Has 4.5 stars on Yelp. Unfortunately, closed on Sundays. Mr. Sub in Union at 641 Chestnut St.

There was a thread a few months ago about subs and such

Scotts is good , so is oscars. Depeatros ( spelled wrong?) on springfeild ave has good Italian subs and pastas.

Did not know Mr. Sub (+1) was closed on Sunday. Not looking good.

It's a hot dog place, that's what they do.

Not even hamburgers, just hot dogs, fries, sodas and buttermilk.

Weird place

I don't think you understood what he was getting at. They sell frankfurters, as in Frankfurt Germany. At least they don't call them Liberty Dogs on the menu ;-)

Is this it? If so, they claim to keep "normal" hours (closed Sundays) - but maybe they close up shop when they have a catering gig?

Either way - would be good to know the inside scoop.

Oh how I love Mr. Sub! We ordered a few 3 ft subs from them for an informal party and they were so delicious. Great to keep in mind for a Sunday football party or simple get together.
