Songs About Mary

One mo agin'  same idea.

Check the bongos

Mary sings about Mary. My work here is done.

I hope not.

A soft spot for when Mary isn’t in the title.

(The guy wearing the hat wrote “Mary, Mary.”)

And since Taj mentioned Mavis (I’ve always assumed the title is a pun):

Jesus. The bongos, the time signatures (at least one that I can’t figure out at all), those anachronistic head shots — I need a bracer, and it’s not even noon.

A "Mary" slips in here, just barely:

I ask for a bracer, and you cue up Steely Dan. Fie on you.

But since you cleared the way for a technicality, a song that’s not about Aunt Mary:

Only appropriate on this 28th anniversary of his passing.

I do like this song, but at the same time this tweet from last year really changed how I hear it...

Mary freaking knew, that her baby boy would one day rule the nations

Mary freaking knew, that her baby boy was Lord of all creation.

Yes she knew! Read Luke 1, you fool, she sang about it then.

It helps, if when you're reading, you listen to the WOMENNNNNNNN!

Lazy Mary, will you get up

Mary--Patty Griffith

The Cherry Tree Carol - Joan Baez

This is the first track that comes to mind when I think about Mary songs, but I've always lover Butter. Some hard-driving Chicago blues/rock with a bit of psychedelica - from "East/West" (1966).

It’s a relief to know you’ll probably forget all about my potential crossword spoiler by lunchtime anyway.

You expect me to remember something from August 2018? Ha!

No expectations. Just relief.

this song already appeared, but not this version.  Always nice to hear from Rockpile

"When Joseph Was An Old Man"

Also known as "The Cherry Tree," this darkly humorous Christmas carol features a resentful Joseph getting one-upped by the Virgin Mary, with some help.
