So, are you gonna get the new Apple iWatch?

If so, are you getting the 18k gold one?

The fastest depreciating chunk of gold I can think of. You'll have to buy one, hold onto it for 20 years then hope the cool kids are having a Teens revival or something.

This, coming from a lover of Apple products.

Just heard a parody how the Apple Watch will know when I have my "alone time" and post my progression to my FB page. I know it's not true, but not taking any chances.

It it were $100 or less, sure.
At $350+? No way.

(And I'm huge Apple fan.)

Use your other hand :-D

Ahhh..."The Stranger"

I resent having to update my other software so it matches the Watch, which I'll never buy or use.

Maybe when I upgrade my flip phone but I don't expect that to happen any time soon.

Since I was a kid, I've been waiting for something like this...

But not THIS.

-s.

BTW: He got a bulldog jawwww. He da arm o' de lawwww...

IIRC a lot of folks on this board really hated the iPad when it came out.....

Including Dave, (again IIRC), he put out a "Hitler" video.

Does anyone remember that one?

I just did a search - and, it actually worked. But I couldn't the video in the archives....

This one?

https://youtu.be/2lui0-4IW64

im not getting one.... already have a phone that tells time and makes phone calls

I was very excited about this for a long time... but the lack of advanced health data (I think the new jawbone will surpass the phone functionality), the questionable battery life (what will it be like in 18 months?) and the price point... I think I have to pass.

At a minimum I'm going to wait at least 6 months to see what happens when real people start to use it - if it were $250 I'd be all over it.

I think this needs to go through a few iterations and improvements before it will be worth it. But I'm keeping an eye on the idea... just not in gold, which is absurd.

What gets me is that I read somewhere that they've made so you can only use the screen for 10secs at a time. It just seems so silly.

And I still don't want to update everything else so it will accommodate this contraption I will never get.

Yes, but I'm getting the base model.

Ridski - yep that's the one.

Give the watch some time. It's not even out and people are piling on to it. I think it's an intriguing (and more convenient) extension to the phone. Easier to check text messages by a flick of a wrist rather than taking the phone out of a pocket, unlocking it than reading the text.

My eyes don't work that good and trying to read text or whatever on a screen, the size of a watch.... it ain't gonna happen.

Wasn't there an android version of this a few years back? I seem to remember a tv commercial where a family was trick or treating dressed as star wars characters and the youngest child looks at his watch and says something like "just got an update , they're giving out full sized candy bars at 223 maple street" or something.

I don't expect apple to have an original idea ever and I don't think I'm dreaming.

Edited to add: the kid dressed as the x-wing pilot looks at his watch says he just got an update to avoid a house owned by a dentist whos giving out floss. The ad last aired the day after holloween 2013.

Found it

Came out when the galaxy note III was in the line up.

Given that they've gone for "extreme miniaturiasation" (sp?), some things are going to be very annoying:
* the short definition of 'all day' - at 18hours
* Siri on the Apple Watch can do pretty much anything if can do on an iPhone, but it responds in text, not via voice according to the on-stage demos – a move those embarrassed by having a conversation with a gadget will be thankful for.
* won't track sleep like your Fitbit etc currently do,

Ah. Here it is. The article about the 10-second use, to save battery time. So, how exactly will that make all the other wonderful uses actually practical? I'm just not seeing it. Esp when you still need your phone with you, to make it work.

Looks like those most threatened are makers of expensive, useless watches.

As Douglas Adams wrote in Hitchhikers, we're a planet of primitive ape-descendants who still think digital watches are pretty cool.
;-)

On further reflection, and after agreeing with Jack's comment about aging eyes and small screens, I think I will stick with devices that have bigger screens. As a woman, I can always carry it in my purse! But I will still wear an old-fashioned watch that does only one thing. Leave the iWatch to the youngsters. smile

I would definitely remember making a Hitler video about iPads. And I have always enjoyed iPads. That said, I did find this.

I may have made this Hitler video.

Dave - the MOL video is a hoot!

See Ridski's post above for the iPad Hitler video. (Which I thought you had made, but it might just have been linked to something already posted on the web).

The watches were available for viewing at the Short Hills store today. Really nice looking watch. Great selection of bands and it looks super cool. It wasn't fully loaded with software yet- they were mostly just there to look at, try on and see the display ( which wasn't fully functional- just playing an info video) but now I definitely want one. Pricing was actually much, much lower than I thought. $349/$399 for the aluminum sport womens/ mens version and a really nice stainless one with a stainless metal band at around $500-600. You will be able to change out the bands to have lots of options.
